Holy Cow, I live in a relatively small market and the concert variety around here announced for the summer is really pretty amazing already. Old bands, new bands, you name it they all seem to be out on the road this summer. Not a lot of prog, but still a ton of live music to choose from, and I don’t even live in a big city.

As of right now sure things are:

    Primus
    ROSfest
    Gordon Lightfoot (Kalamazoo)
    Apocolyptica (Grand Rapids)
    Rush (Detroit)
    Aerosmith (Grand Rapids)
    Symphony X (Grand Rapids)

Other shows I am considering or waiting for tickets to go on sale:

    Gary Clarke Jr. (Grand Rapids)
    Yes / Toto (Detroit)
    Steven Wilson (Chicago)
    Umphrey’s McGee (Grand Rapids)

David Sedaris (not actually a concert, but a live performance)
    RoSfest
    Acid Mother's Temple (maybe)
    Apocalyptica (maybe)
    Magma
    Terra Incognita
    Steven Wilson
    Neko Case
    Jaga Jazzist
    Steeleye Span
    ProgDay
    Mark Knopfler

Just got tickets for J Geils at Tropicana in AC August 29. Unfortunately, Jerome has left the band. A couple years back I saw the last full reunion and these guys were as great as they were the previous time I saw them almost 30 years earlier. Still the best live band I have ever seen.

The Guelph Jazz Festival's indoor programming has been announced and includes:

Nicole Mitchell's Black Earth Strings + Matt Brubeck
    Evan Parker & Colin Stetson
    Jason Adasiewicz's Sun Rooms
    Kris Davis Capricorn Climber
    Thumbscrew (Mary Halvorson/Tomas Fujiwara/Michael Formanek)
    Darius Jones Quartet
    Colin Stetson and Sarah Neufeld
    Matana Roberts
    Rocket Science (Evan Parker/Peter Evans/Ikue Mori/Sam Pluta)
Bly de Blyant (with Hilmar Jensson, Shahzad Ismaily, and Ches Smith)
    Marc Ribot’s Ceramic Dog
    Taylor Ho Bynum Sextet

The free outdoor programming will be announced later. Some interesting changes this year for festival regulars...

    (a) After being held the weekend after Labour Day for the previous 21 years, this year the festival has been moved one week later and runs September 16th-20th.
    (b) The festival's founder and programming director for its entire 21 year history, Ajay Heble, is apparently gone but possibly only for this year. I was told he took a one-year sabbatical from his teaching position at the University of Guelph and I guess left the festival at the same time.
    (c) Looks like all new venues for this year's festival. No concerts at the River Run Centre, Guelph Youth Music Centre, or St. George's Church. No idea what's up with that and will definitely miss the GYMC. Also, no River Run Centre means no concerts with assigned seating. Everything is general admission.

    More information at http://www.guelphjazzfestival.com.

Check out the FNM thread here (you'll know it's the one because I'm the only one posting to it). I linked the latest BBC sessions in it. If you like the new tunes, I'd say go. If not, maybe skip it.

Just landed tickets for Joe Walsh at the New Fillmore in Philly. Last time I saw Joe was back in 87. Can't wait for this one.

I'll be seeing Pugwash here in town at the Iron Horse in Northampton (MA) in September. My prog bud saw them last year and said they put on a great fun show. I had not even heard of them until my bud turned me onto them and the two related Duckworth Lewis Method albums (though many of the cricket references are lost on me...)

Also grabbed third row (pit) seats for Steve Hackett in Albany in early November. Love that venue (the Egg), where I've seen Renaissance and Steven Wilson.

Received an email from Tickfly that advertised the Yes tour which visits here tomorrow. It stated Chris Squire was to play. Sick bastards.
