iOS 7 - the Tech Apocalypse is Upon Us

Anyone else update their iDevices yet. I did the iPad last night and the iPhone this morning. The icons look almost cartoony but that's my only real complaint so far. The apps that I use most often were ready for the change so I haven't had any difficulty. Yet. Except I hate having to key in the lock code now on an iPad that spends 95% of its time at home.

There's no setting to turn the lock key thing off?

Sure there is. Go to Settings -> General -> Passcode Lock and disable it in there.

I kind of hate the grey background around the small icons that are in a group. I wonder if that can be set to be transparent.

I like it so far, but haven't had a lot of time to play with it. My 15 year old daughter knows every new feature on it, of course.

Thanks Zalmoxe, I have now obliterated the pass codes. Another pain is this Face Time app that they have automatically installed on the first page, bumping an icon into a new empty page. A.) I'm never going to use it but like Newstand, I can't eliminate it. B.) reordering your icons has to be done manually, you can't do it via iTunes anymore.

I was made aware of this yesterday by a colleague, but I will wait until I'm dragged kicking and screaming. I feel no need to switch over now. My iPad runs just fine and I only ever use the same handful of apps.

iPad & iPhone updated! They're like new devices now!

Love the new iOS! Love that you can now put as many apps in a single folder instead of having a "Games2" folder for instance. Love the new camera interface. I also dig the 3D effect between your wallpaper and folders.

As far as icons bumping things onto the next page, simply organize them into folders. Newstand and FaceTime are now able to be stuffed away into folders now too (I hated the fact that it couldn't be tucked away in a folder). I have one page with eight folders for everything.

This is a pretty sleek iOS as far as I'm concerned.

I already had a photo chosen as by background which was perfect black, which uses the least power. Ios7 default to the same background. The new camera is fun.

How do you create and name new folders?

My entire music library is gone. Do I have to resync with my computer?

Yes. But my version of ios6 told me when going thru settings, s/w update that I did have to create space. So went to iTunes and killed the library and did the update. I will be reestablishing the library soon.

Touch and hold an icon until all the icons start to wiggle. Now drag one icon onto a similar icon (2 games or 2 travel apps, etc). This will create a folder and the iOS will actually recognize the category and automatically name the folder, however, you can edit the name of the folder yourself if that's not to your liking. You can even customize what goes onto your quick-launch tray at the bottom using the steps above.

And as Chris mentions, you can always ask Siri. She'll set you up.
