Always been intrigued by the Glam Man....
Always been intrigued by the Glam Man....
If you're thinking of where to start with T-Rex itself, the answer is quite obviously Electric Wizard. The four Tyrannosaurus Rex records contain some interesting freak-folk ditties, but are overall a bit uneven. A transitional album between the two periods is T-Rex, emphasizing some intriguing expansions on the initial duo sound.
But Electric Wizard is where to go.

Electric Warrior.
And, yes, that's the way to go.
Oh. And it was produced by Visconti, so it sounds awesome, and it features Flo and Eddie and Ian McDonald. Fun facts.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
Electric Warrior is probably the place to start, but I dig the wacked out Tyrannosaurus Rex LPs and T Rex more...Weird times.....
Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes

Tyrannosaurus Rex: A Beard of Stars
T. Rex: a greatest hits collection
Heres some useless trivia -- Marc Bolan played guitar along with Jeff Lynne on this song:
This was always my fave Bolan album -

"The Slider" is his best so you should start there.

Essentials:
Electric Warrior
The Slider
Tanx
I also enjoy Light Of Love, but has more of an R&B feel.
Electric Warrior followed by Slider
That should pretty much cover all you need..
I saw T-Rex back in the 70's when he was tapping a spot for the Don Kirschner Rock Concert TV show... I recall towards the end of the song he switched guitars and then smashed a cheepo guitar, not his regular one....
I second the Slider. Great album I've never warmed up to the rest of the catalog.
I got nothin' :
...avoiding any implication that I have ever entertained a cognizant thought.

i'd start with electric warrior then move on to the slider. (if you're really feeling the bolan magic, check out the movie billy elliot. you won't be sorry!)
Electric Warrior and Slider for me, all I ever needed.
You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...
Yeah, after many many years Electric Warrior still holds up for me. Start there, you might even end there, but go there first.
It ranks among my all-time favorite, desert-island-type, discs. Like The Beatles, it's pure pop, and still manages to be really really good.
It blew me away to find out that it was recorded here-and-there on tour. It sounds very cohesive to my ears. I think I'll spin it again tonight.
Wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world.
I prefer the early Tyrannosaurus Rex acid folk records (the duo stuff).
From the glam era, "Electric Warrior" or simply a greatest hits.
Use to love T-Rex but now I can't tolerate listening to his voice !
Prophets, Seers and Sages, the Angels of the Ages
Unicorn
A Beard of Stars
My People Were Fair and Had Sky in their Hair, But Now They're Content to Wear Stars On Their Brows
T-Rex
--- these are the essentials, IMO. The first three glam-boogie albums - (EW - Slider - Tanx) are quite palatabal, especially I love Tanx. But thereafter I lost interest - since Zinc Alloy...
