New (awesome) Levin Minnemann Rudess Video: Scrod

    Hey all,

The latest Levin Minnemann Rudess video is out for "Scrod," a standout track from their just-released self-titled album from Lazy Bones Records (http://www.lazybones.com/). This is my favorite piece, which has a rather amazing King Crimson-meets-Tangerine Dream perspective happening. It's just totally killer....

Very interesting! Really tight playing, with the right amount of technique and humour in their music.

    gotta get this
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

Great players but why does it occasionally sound like some american tv show like Knightrider or MacGyver?

Not only TV...That awesomeness was also apparent in movies. In 1984 in one of his movies Arnold Schwarzenegger promised that he'll be back...and in 1991 back he was

He'd seem to do well in Vegas.

Well, cheese or no...my copy of the album arrived last night. Gave it a first proper listen on the morning drive today. It's really good! I pretty much assumed the playing would be spectacular considering the musicians involved, but I'm also really enjoying the songs themselves. So far the track 'Mew' is really stuck with me, some nice fusion-y chords and playing (also some rhythm guitar in the background).

I'm not the biggest fan of Rudess's patch choices either; they tend to get a tad too digital for me. Honestly though, that is a very minor criticism; IMHO he is impressive here, adding flourishes in places but also giving the music space to breathe.

In short, a cool little album that is definitely worth purchasing. Here's hoping they can swing a small tour!

They said that now a tour is highly unlikely. It was said that they could think about it if this project does well and if they do a second album which could provide more material for live shows.

Well, a second album wouldn't exactly be a disappointment. Understandable about the touring.

I like the trio format; it would also be interesting to hear them add a 4th player to the mix. The rhythm guitar in 'Mew' kind of had me thinking along those lines, actually...

I haven't heard the album yet, but am really looking forward to it. I think I understand what you said about Jordan's patches. He sometimes creates these weird and not too attractive sounds which sound a bit meh. I think that he is at his strongest when bringing his symphonic palette or doing smth like the Rudess Morgenstein project album.
Speaking about live shows - apparently, they think that one album is not enough to do live gigs as there is not enough material to choose from, but I can't imagine why this couldn't be successful enough so that a second album is made. It would be great if they made one.
Regarding your comment about the fourth member - as soon as this was made public, there were already voices saying (asking) why isn't Petrucci there? I don't think think that one more DT/LTE spin off is needed. I hope that if they decide to add someone else, it will really be someone else.

Something I like about this project is that it ISN'T just a non-stop chops fest ala LTE. I'd rather hear a different sort of player, maybe someone with more of a fusion background or something.

It was just a thought though...in the end they can/should/will do whatever their hearts desire
