Iranian Band MAVARA Plays ProgDay 2013!

    MAVARA Plays ProgDay 2013!

Drawn to the music of progressive rock, FARHOOD GHADIRI formed MAVARA (translation: "beyond everything you think") in Tehran in 2001. Counting PINK FLOYD, RUSH and ELOY among its strongest influences, the band has since released 3 albums, and despite the restrictions put on rock music in Iran, MAVARA has developed a fanbase in the Middle East and in parts of Europe where they have managed to perform. Known for its lush music, atmospheres and emotional vocals, MAVARA will be featuring music from its latest release, Season Of Salvation.

MAVARA (Iran) joins OUT OF THE BEARDSPACE (US), CORIMA (US), OBLIVION SUN (US), HERD OF INSTINCT (US), MIRIODOR (Canada), THANK YOU SCIENTIST (US) and SIMAKDIALOG (Indonesia) at ProgDay 2013, the nineteenth edition of the world's longest running progressive rock festival. ProgDay 2013 will take place on Saturday, August 31st, and Sunday, September 1st, at Storybook Farm in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. For more information, and to hear music from all of this year's bands, please visit us at www.progday.net.

    Thanks!

    Michael

Thanks for capping off the lineup with such an intriguing-sounding band.
I hope I can coax Andrea into overcoming her shyness and speaking Farsi with these folks.

They aren't coming to Progday direct from Iran.

    No, Mr. Funny.

Miriodor already have their work visas in place and have had them for several months.

It was more a subtle joke about US/Canadian political relations. Probably too subtle. Looking forward to hearing them. Surprised they are slotted so early to be honest. I actually thought they might headline.

Yes, Steve F. is correct - Miriodor had their documentation in place, early-on, thankfully! However, with all of our "challenges" on many other issues over the months, your point is good comic-relief! With respect to the positioning, Miriodor actually requested this slot - it will give them time to enjoy the festival and interact with attendees. Folks will have a rare opportunity to meet and spend time with the members of this wonderful band.

Listening to the samples on the progday website. Very surprising and some interesting sounds, some Steve Wilson modern prog influences too. They are opening on Sat 10:30.
