Never heard this band. What is the best way to own it all? The box I presume? Is that available? Danka.

Personally, I only care for the debut album
OK, the second is still allright, but hardly essential (at least compared to Man Or Monkey)

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I'd agree that Man or Monkey was their best release, but then again that one is STUNNING!!! The perfect start for those "adventurous rock" fans who want to dwell into the possibilities of free improvisation. This swings and beats and hits in a sense I've heard very few improv units accomplish. Perfect Worlds is more through-arranged and prepared (and with more lyrics), and would be my second choice. I never heard A Face We All Know, but someone told me it's their most "abstract" release.
The live album (recorded in Japan) is quite interesting as well, although the music has gotten rather cerebral at this stage. Of course, Heiner Goebbels was already established in his career as substantial "serious" composer at this point.

Man Or Monkey is really all you need. Then check out Domestic Stories, Cutler's project with Lutz Glandien w/Harth, Frith, & Dagmar....
Hell, they ain't even old-timey ! - Homer Stokes
Well getting back to this thread from a few years back (now a few lbs heavier, and a few more grey hairs as well), I went ahead last night and ordered 'Man or Monkey', 'The Way it Was',' Perfect World', and 'A Face We All Know' from ReR's sale. If I don't like one album, then I still have three more chances.
Did you ever hear Vanishing Point ('95) by The (EC) Nudes, Frankie? The 'art rock/pop power trio' Cutler formed with Amy Denio (vox/bass/accordeon) and Wädi Gysi (guitar)? It tends to be somewhat forgotten in the oeuvre of Cutlery songsmithing, but is really, really worthwhile (tho' fundamentally different from Cutler/Denio's later coop in The Science Group).

I dived in with "The Way It Was" a few months ago, still struggling to work out if I like it or not.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Hmmm, I definitely have never heard that album, but possibly a tune or two if they were included on those red and blue ReR samplers that came with The Art Box years ago? I'll have to check - thanks for the tip though. I also ordered (amongst other things) the second Vril 'The Fatal Duckpond', as I enjoyed the first one so much. Pretty much never been disappointed with anything Cutler, although I bought 'Solo' some years back now and maybe have only spun it 2-3 times?

The live album is amazing
"Vanishing Point" has one of my favorite songs ever, and amazingly, there's a live version of it on YouTube.
I saw them in Copenhagen i 1982, I remember a great version of 'At last I am free' ( Chic /Wyatt / Fraser)
Maybe I should check out their live album.
Wow - that is OUT there. And for me to say that
So should I expect 4 cd's worth of essentially the same thing - bizarre spoken stuff over a semi-composed but highly improvisatory structures with textures/FX galore? Or do they vary it from album to album? And for the record I liked this, just most likely not on an everyday 'Rotters Club' or 'Sing to God' type of spinning.
Indeed he is. It's when I see and hear him play like this that I start to wonder about the concept of "instrumentalist status" in rock/borderline music. To me, his style has always been technically impeccable yet almost incomprehensibly individual at the same time. Usually they tend to sway in either direction, but not in both. He's a rock/contemporary drummer/percussionist with the finesse of a jazz player, and there are extremely few of those cases out there - at least convincing examples of it.

One of the reasons I love this band so much is Christoph Anders's vocals
Much like Dagmar he is an enquired taste for sure but boy he sounds so powerfull and convincing especially live
too bad he has vanished of the scene
Anyone here share my admiration ?
re: Christoph Anders. I like him very much in Cassiber. He sounds very convincing, as you say.
I was a huge Cassiber fan back in the day. It might have been my favorite post-Cow project with Chris.
I think they were greater as a band than the sum of their parts. I don't know if I would like him in some other musical project, but he was exactly right for this musical project.
