WAYSIDE MUSIC GETTING OUT OF THE SCHMATA BUSINESS SALE!

My grandfather was in the garment business. I never wanted to be in the garment business, but somehow I ended up partially there. Now I am sick of it and want out.

ALL shirts are 50% off while they last. NOTE that the prices displayed ARE the 50% off prices!

If you live outside of the USA and you order these items, you will receive a note from us telling you how much extra you owe for postage. It will be a lot. Keep that in mind.

Some of these are available in very small quantities and all of these are very high quality shirts, not generally available.

Ehh, I might splurge anyway but I'll have to wait a few weeks. Hopefully my size will still be there.

it LITERALLY means 'rag', but it can be used (a bit derisively) as a term for clothing.

    but there's also this:

"When used with the term "industry", the schmata industry refers to the clothing industry, specifically in new york city, and specifically in reference to the women's clothing industry.
My father works in the schmata industry."

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=schmata

My grandpa worked in the schmata industry in New York. And that's a fact, not a definition!

Thank you for the definition. Great stuff, I love learning this.

Both my maternal grandparents worked in the garment business (seamstress and tailor) in New York years ago. They were Sicilian so I never heard the term "schmata." My paternal grandmother worked in the fabric mills in Rhode Island early in the 20th century, and I'd bet dollars to dimes "schmata" was not a word young girls from Naples used with any regularity.

Thank you for a great story.
My wife is from Providence, so I know about the fabric mills that were there a century ago!
