Jon Anderson live in Manchester
Went to see Lord Squeaky of Accrington aka The Lancashire Pixie at the Royal Exchange last night. Completely solo gig, comprising of radically simplified Yes, J&V and solo tunes. I mean really simplified, two or three chords and melodies stretched to fit!
Big hit of Olias, two tracks from TFTO, some very funny anecdotes and some really spirited versions spanning his whole career. Highlights for me were Sweet Dreams, State Of Independence and Wonderous Stories.
A lovely, good humoured, intimate antidote to the ongoing gripey Yes saga. He IS the voice of Yes, but they are still good without him and on last nights showing, he doesn't need them at all.

I wish he would take the time to learn to play the guitar like Steve Howe.

I would really like to see him solo, I saw Greg Lake in this type of setup and it was really enjoyable...But it wouldn't be too shabby to see him with the current YES boys...even if he and Jon D. Shared vocal duties...Just saying...

I saw one of his first solo tours back in early 2004 when he was still touring with YES, and it was excellent. The only drawback then was that he wasn't playing anything from Olias at the time. But his voice was great, took pics with fans afterwards, and as "quirky" as ever-talked about being abducted by aliens in one story. hehe. I saw his and Ricks solo shows at the same venue within months of each other!
