The Fixx are getting a new album ready for release. They are in the middle of doing a few shows on a quick west coast jaunt.
APRIL 24, 2014 BEVERLY HILLS, CA SABAN THEATRE
APRIL 25, 2014 ANAHEIM, CA HOUSE OF BLUES
APRIL 26, 2014 RENO, NV BOOMTOWN CASINO
APRIL 27, 2014 PETALUMA, CA MYSTIC THEATRE
Since you saw them last, they cut back on the number of tracks they play from Beautiful Friction. It was a great show on Friday at the Anaheim House of Blues. Fantastic double-bill, as Dramarama was added as the opener for this and their Beverly Hills show. The Fixx are more laid back than guitar-driven Dramarama. I am a big fan of Dramarama -- get their 1991 Vinyl cd NOW! Dramarama fired up the crowd, then the Fixx came in and whipped the people around a bit with hits and delightful gems. Ticket prices were under $25.
Precious Stone
Driven Out
Secret Separation
Just Before Dawn
Are We Ourselves?
Beautiful Friction
What God?
Gypsy Feet
One Thing Leads to Another
Less Cities, More Moving People
The Fool
Stand or Fall
Fatal Shore
Deeper and Deeper
Saved by Zero
Encore:
Subterranean
Shaman
Red Skies
Oh, very cool. I guess if I wanted to make a last minute trip to Petaluma, I could… (UPDATE) Tickets bought. Looking forward to it. Don't know about this opener Bobby Jo Valentine, though.
And yeah. Beautiful Friction was good and I'm amazed and gladdened that they're doing another one.

Good to hear they are doing another album!
Wow, great show. Cy Curnin can still bring it vocally and West-Oram is a monster. The latter did some really hot guitar solos, showing off his chops pretty well. The other band members were great as well, helping to keep up the energy. "The Fool" in particular was spellbinding, and they can still rock the heck out of "One Thing." Curnin's snarky between-song banter was a little more low-key than I expected, but funny all the same. I'm glad I saw the Fixx before the inevitable day when I give up concerts altogether.
Now, the opener, Bobby Jo Valentine… eh. Since he's primarily a singer-songwriter (though not particularly adept at either) I was worried he'd do a solo acoustic set sung off-key, but fortunately he brought a band along, which helped. The drummer was quite good even if the keyboardist was a bit "Linda McCartney." I got through it without wanting to rip my ears off. It helped that he seemed like a nice guy, too.

Hired on to work for Mr. Bill Cox, a-fixin' lawn mowers and what-not, since 1964.

The balcony was only half full but the floor was packed. I sat on the balcony because I'm a wuss, but I had a great view of the band and I have no regrets. The crowd was hooting and hollering the entire time, although I could have done without the drunk guy ten feet away from me shouting "STAND OR FALL! WE LOVE YOU FIXX!!!" at random times, including the quieter ones. (There's always one, isn't there?) Early on, Cy said "Can you feel the love in this room?" and that got a big reaction.
Seriously, there wasn't a single song in the entire set I didn't rock out to, even the slower groovier ones. But of all of new ones, "What God?" is a real killer. I was a bit surprised at how heavily represented Calm Animals was, though, of all their albums. But that's okay; "Driven Out" kicked a lot of ass. It's one of the more underrated singles in their catalog.Did you enjoy the cuts from the latest album?

Just bought Live At Rockpalast (CD/DVD, 2014), which is a registration from the 1985 Phantoms-tour. Good stuff and fine memories.
Still no news on new work on http://www.thefixx.com/
I bought this live CD/DVD a few months ago as well. Great recording! I hear that news about a new The Fixx album is coming soon.

Just noticed Stephen Tayler mentions 2017 on his website: http://stephentayler.com/SWTrecentprojects.html
Rupert Greenall, The Fixx' keyboard-player, released an album with Jerry Marotta, Eric "the" Taylor and Robert Rich as The Fragile Fate. The album is called "Lilliam Ocean" and contains fine ambient music.
Ive always considered Jamie to be one of the great modern rock guitarists. He seems like he was probably influenced by Andy Summers, but he took it into a whole different direction. There's nobody who sounds like him.
I met him about 10 years ago and he was a very shy and humble man. My wife at the time took a photo of him and me. There were only about 10 people at the gig in Hartford Connecticut so we got to hang out with the band a bit after the show.

Just seeing them perform "The Fool" is worth the price of admission. They are certainly not greedy, I've seen them at least a dozen times and have never paid more than $25 for a ticket.
It's good to see that Deeper and Deeper is still in the set.

Just noticed The Fixx finally released a new album: "Every Five Seconds" https://www.thefixx.com/

I try to tell someone like that that the band is wearing ear monitors and can't hear the crowd.
I remember tomorrow
Sounds impressive, this new one:
Lonely As A Lighthouse
I saw them in a small club too, maybe too loud for the size of the club, but they played well.
I saw them in Dallas back in the fall. They were outstanding. Still digesting the new album.

I picked up the new CD but haven't spun it yet. My damned allergies have both ears shut down; I can barely hear.
