It was on the 6 o' clock news here in Holland. I'm shocked.

I just knew him as the author of Kansas's "Bringing It Back," but I see he wrote a lot of other well-known songs. R.I.P. indeed.

Rest in peace, J.J. Cale. I have been listening to Cale's music for decades. Talented man. A great loss. Some of his better known songs:

    Call Me The Breeze
    Magnolia
    Crazy Mama
    After Midnight
I Got The Same Old Blues
    Travelin' Light
    Cocaine

I listened to J.J. Cale in high school but I definitely respected him as an artist since this time. I used to listen to my older brother's albums. RIP.

I had bought a few LPs in the late 70's.... but I built-up an XL-IIS cassettte compilation. (and got rid of the albums as usual).. Never gor a CD of his.... I'll have to dig out that tape and play it...

thanks for the music and RIP JJ...

For some reason, I've always considered him to be the southwest American version of John Martyn. Bless the guy's soul. In a time when most everything is phony, you can't get any more real than Mr. Cale.

I remember he said something like. "There are musicians and entertainers and I never was an entertainer." I don't know if I particularly agree with the latter, but the former is absolute truth. A sad day.

He may have not considered himself an entertainer but he was an American treasure in terms of songwriting.

RIP ... rivals Mr Zimmerman as my favourite American solo artist. If you decide to investigate one of his many worthy albums, my recommendations are Naturally, Five and Travel_log.
