I am also enjoying this one a lot.

My first impression was a little disappointment. Compared to their previous record; the very lush-sounding 'Saturnal', this sound less impressive. The sound is much more stripped down and it sounds less composed and more improvised. However, in return you get a more spontanous band-sound that sounds fresh en energetic. It also haas a more jazzy touch. For Saturnal I have to be in the mood to play it. This record is more for all moods ans seasons.

Out of the last batch of records from Altrock this is the one I play the most.

I received this is my email today:

we are finishing the recording of another album in octoberXart: October Equus Quartet 'Isla Purgatorio'.

The album includes 9 new compositions written by myself. These compositions shows the impact that had in me many years ago several early Cuneiform Records bands like Curlew or Doctor Nerve, and also influences like 70's jazz-rock, Soft Machine or Terje Rypdal. Of course, in the particular October Equus' complex style, althought in this time with more ostinato bass riffs and jazz-oriented solos than usually.

The band for this quartet are Ángel Ontalva guitar, Alfonso Muñoz alto sax, Amanda Pazos Cosse bass and Vasco Trilla drums & percussion.
The releasing of this CD is scheduled for October 15 (day of the old roman October Equus holiday!).

We are accepting pre-orders that will help for pressing the CDs. If you are interested, you can send us 12 euros (shipping included) via PayPal to the usual account and you will receive the CD as soon as it will be released:

    info@octoberxart.com

This is a video (that you surely have seen already) of this band rehearsing for the recording of the album:

Very soon we will send you several pre-mixes and some samples of the artwork too!

Thanks & bests / Ángel Ontalva

Wow, talking about productivity! I quite like Permafrost so I will certainly pre-order this one as well.

Nice to see that these works - when Cuneiform was first finding itself and its 'sound' - made some impact on some other great musicians.

I discovered those Cuneiform bands on some moment around 1990, at the same time that Ambiances Magnetiques, another big influence... Well at that point I was playing guitar from more or less ten years ago, but was listening all that new music that I started to think more seriously about to create a band and to turn a professional musician. Still I'm not sure if was a good idea or not...
