Anything on Six Wives of Henry VIII.
Kestrel -the endings of "In the War" and "August Carol"
"Calling Occupants" by Klaatu is probably my favorite because of the delightful "cheese" quality of it in both performance and production
non-prog: "Changes" by Black Sabbath
and +1 to Bee Gees "Every Christian Lion Hearted Man" and I'll add "New York Mining Disaster 1941"
The short Spanish guitar interlude at the start of The Beatles 'Bungalow Bill'
Nay, but seriously brethren, side one of Epsilon in Malaysian Pale as stated above and the intro to WOTS
I dig all those Genesis, Yes, Strawbs, and KC classics as well. But for something different and modern, the best album that comes to mind is the mellotron drenched "Nordagust- In The Mist of Morning".
Also, most of the stuff from Fabio Zuffanti, especially La Maschera and Hostsonaten, is outstanding. And the entire catalogue of Anekdoten fits the bill as well.
I rather like Wakeman's Tron on "A Space Oddity" and the always tasteful Mike Pinder on "Nights in White Satin".
Not a single mention of any of Flavio Premoli's beautiful Mellotron on any of the first 3 PFM albums?!
L'Isola di Niente from the album of the same name alone is enough to send Premoli to the Mellotron Hall of Fame!
And if there were a god, I think it very unlikely that he would have such an uneasy vanity as to be offended by those who doubt His existence - Russell
Tangerine Dream - Mysterious Semblance at the Strands of Nightmares
Not necessarily "prog" (whatever that is), but just my favorite Mellotron bits in general:
Choir on the live version of Afterglow
Choir on The Cinema Show
The entirety of the Symphonic Pictures album from SFF
Choir and flutes heard on some 75 era Tangerine Dream bootlegs
Aerosmith's Angel and The Movie
Flutes on Strawberry Fields Forever
I could swear the Mellotron flutes were used on a TV show that was on a couple years ago called Being Erica, which I watched regularly.
Tuesday's Gone from Lynyrd Skynyrd
Rick Wakeman's solo version of Moanin'
The Planet Mellotron guy seems fairly sure there's mellotron on "Awaken":
http://www.planetmellotron.com/revyes.htm
"Rick rejoined Yes (for the first time of many) for the recording of Going for the One, so managed to be in on the making of their last classic album. Saying that, it's not in the Close to the Edge league, but still has some great moments, of which the greatest is album closer Awaken. Apparently Rick was using his 'double Tron' at the time (the one that survived the later, er, 'conflagration'), and uses choir, flutes and strings on the track, though all sparingly. There's also a real choir involved, just to confuse the issue, but there's definitely a bit of the real thing (?!) in there, too, plus a couple of rising chords on Wonderous Stories."
Nope, I guess I removed all the Yes, but listening online I'd say there is.
Also, from the Wikipedia article on the Birotron:A total of four Birotrons were owned by Rick Wakeman, who used them successfully on the Yes Going For The One and Tormato tours to replace his double Mellotron last used on the Going For The One album.
Änglagård: “Kung Bore”
Atlas: “På gata”
Eela Craig: “Circles” (one of the finest uses of the M400 brass sound)
Genesis: “Watcher of the Skies” (a bit of a cliché for lists like these, but it’s a cliché for a reason)
Kayak: “Lovely Luna” (that dramatic explosion of strings gets me every time)
King Crimson: “Epitaph”
SFF: “Pictures”
Yes: “And You and I”

Radiohead - Exit Music (For A Film). Another beautiful use of the choir...
Nope, I think Rufus is right and I'm wrong. I forgot about some of the flutey pad stuff in the beginning and ending. And there might be some choir padding. I tend to think there is no string "tron, but I'd have to listen again carefully... in any event I spoke too soon!
As for the Birotron, I'm 98% sure it only came along in time for the tour, and it's regular Mellotron on the record.
Yeah and also parts of "the devil's triangle." There's one part where the tron makes it sound as if the world is about to end. Everything just gets so intense. I don't think I've ever heard a more intense sounding mellotron or mellotrons although the ones in Epitaph are similar in that respect.
I also want to mention "mouth of madness" by Spock's Beard. Anglagard had some great mellotron moments too.
Parts of Camel's mirage album particularly "lady fantasy" and "Nimrodel."
I also agree with those who mentioned PFM's "appena un po"(not just the opening section though; there's great tron in the middle that evokes early KC) and Pavlov's Dog. The first two PD albums are loaded with great tron especially the first one("Julia" is a great example).
