Have you ever heard of a band called the Allman Brothers?
What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound (2112)
Apologies for the early derail - good topic.

I posted about Barefoot Jerry in the country rock thread but I'll throw another one in here!
Outlaws
Blackfoot
Molly Hatchet
Ram Jam
I don't consider them the usual suspects but I am admittedly not that familiar with the scene.
(Not the usual suspects)
What's the point, then???
Just kidding, of course
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I always forget that early Kansas was not all prog - some 'Southern Boogie/Rock' type of songs were produced by them
"Normal is just the average of extremes" - Gary Lessor
Rusty Burns, y'all!
Yeah, I was going to mention Kansas since they are not the usual suspects when it comes to this style. HOwever, I think only some of their stuff would qualify as "boogie" or "southern" rock. In the early days at least it was mostly prog with a few boogie tracks or hard rock songs mixed in.
Way back in the day, Kansas, like Little Feat, Ted Nugent and even acts from other countries such as Mahogany Rush and Foghat were more or less adopted by Atlanta fans as southern rockers, mostly due to the efforts of Alex Cooley, who was basically the southern version of Bill Graham. This place was a hotbed of rock in early to late 70's.
BTW, I quite like that Blackberry Smoke thing. Gonna keep my eyes out for 'em. Thanks!
You mean to say that Proti- Kaw was not prog??
IMHO, Kansas' most southern boogie rock album is Monolith
Well, I'd like to think that Atlantians are open-minded enough to adopt musicians from elsewhere without identifying them to southern rock... coz Mahogan Rush don't sound too Skynyrd-y to me ..
I've heard some stuff I hadn't before (I knew PB) so far, but let's face it... nothing groundbreaking or gebre-renewing

I like me some Widespread Panic when I'm sippin' Jack on ma stoop!
Here are a few from back in the days when it was popular.
Grinderswitch
Doc Holliday
Heartsfield
Mama's Pride
Mother's Finest, speaking of which spawned another band called Illusion (yeah, I know, there's 50 bands named "Illusion"), led by Mo Moore and BB Borden. Not commercially successful, but very popular within the ATL bar circuit. They could even get a little bit proggy, but we're talkin' 80's here folks.
Cry of Love. That Audley Freed kid can play!
Nashville Pussy. Ruyter Suys can sure play and hubba, hubba, hubba.
Lou
Looking forward to my day in court.
I like these bands a lot.
LLC is from northern Indiana, but sound like they're from northern Tennessee.
