Apparently since 927 with AEthelstan who was King of the Anglo Saxons and Britain after the defeat of the Vikings in York and the submission of the Welsh & Scottish, he was the grandson of Alfred The Great.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

Well might be time for a change, wouldn't you say? Maybe you should only be allowed to serve 8 years maximum as the King... like in the USA!

We should all learn from George Lucas, who gave us a world where the "Queen" could be an elected 14 year old girl.

well I would not be surprised if it is not applicable with any royal family in the unlikely case that everyone else in line would get out of the way ..

I'm no expert, but hasn't the line been broken a few times? William the Conqueror must have broken the original chain, Richard the III's line died with him, there must be more.

A funny origin of The Prince Of Wales title, being for the second in line for the throne (like Prince of Asturias in Spain, or Comte du Hainaut in Belgium)...

Dates back to the times were there were dozens of kings of wales (or whatever valeys they reigned upon) murdering each other... To the point that being king had absolutely no particular prestige...
Apparently the king of England claimed becoming the Prince of Wales.... which was unique , and impressed many of the local fief-owners... and got accepted (haven't checked wiki to verify (don't care enough about mornarc hy to check)
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

It's broken lots of times with one king usurping the sitting one usually violently or a family line stopping or another claim, William the Conquer, Cromwell, Yorks & Lancashire, etc etc

Just remember, this royal baby will also be superior to all you UK subjects. By divine right you will all be at his beck and call.

Of course, to us Americans, he'll just be another baby.

    Q. Why is the Duchess of Cambridge like the royal yacht Britannia?
    A. Because they are both full of royal se(a)men.
