Thread: Cruise To The Edge Announces 2014 Line Up

Howe in a recent interview wished to make it clear that it was a joint agreement by all 5 Yes members that they were only doing Yes on the cruise. He appeared pretty annoyed at how Davison's non-involvement with Glass Hammer had been presented by other parties. That said, trurl may well have a different perspective...

I'm surprised the line-up is so similar to last time. Won't that reduce repeat trade?

I don't know if Henry was on the first Cruise to the Edge but the truth was that there was that with concerts, Storytelling sessions, Q & A's, workshops. excursions and Meet and Greets, there simply wasn't enough time in the day to do everything and many concerts conflicted with each other so we had to plan each day carefully. I never did get to see UK or Ambrosia. So, while its true the line-up is similar and perhaps the opportunity to see YES for the 200th time is not motivation enough, Hackett simply doesn't tour that often and along with the new bands booked, I can't imagine being bored on this cruise either!

"And he adds of their 2011 studio work: “Fly From Here was a nice record. It had certain repercussions that are going to take a while to sort out.”"
    What repercussions I wonder?

Aargh. "We're not making albums because people share them on the internet"? He's forgetting that FFH outsold their last few albums, all made before file-sharing became common. And that FFH didn't leak to sharing sites, at least not before its release-- mainly because all reviewers got in advance was access to a streaming site.

So I guess that makes it half tribute, half original !

Would be nice to hear to some live GG music though in any form as it's been too long !!!!

Have Marillion also been added or am I hallucinating?

Minnear was in the band for a while, but has left, in part because the Shulmans apparently frown upon the band.

And, yes, Rufus, Marillion have been added.

For the record, I think Three Friends is an amazing, unbelievable band and for me would be the highlight of the cruise...

Sort of a strange move for Marillion IMHO. They have put so much effort over the last couple of decades into putting some good distance between themselves and the more retro moldy seventies type prog vibe. It's a little surprising to me that they would want to appear on a bill that is so seventies/retro/nostalgia heavy.

So, Pete Trewavas will be on both cruises!

I thought so to at first, however they have lightened up on their "we are not a prog band" talk and in some cases have seen the benefits of being lumped in with the genre. They headlined the prog stage in 2010 High Voltage Festival and have played a prog festival in South America.

I find that very disappointing. I never considered Marillion a nostalgia act. can't imagine why they'd lump themselves with this lot, and considering their biennial festivals are a "cruise on land" of sorts.

    imho, of course....

I don't understand why a band's choice of gig would be disappointing.

I think that the music of Gentle Giant is more important than who shows up to play it. Granted, they have to have massive talent to do it,but as far as the Shulman's go,they were invited from the getgo and decided to say no sooner and later and Kerry has left too,so they have Gary Green as the keeper of their flame and Malcom as the long lost drummer reuniting. If the music is played with respect and precision who cares who's in the band? I love them because I love GG's music. It's no different from nameless musicians playing Mozart.....If you want the music heard, somebody's got to play it.

Not sure if you meant that in agreement with me or against me but I'm guessing you missed my next post I totally agree. I posted that in irony.
