Hi folks, the latest edition of my podcast is up over on the blog. A couple of weeks ago a pal called round with a copy of the very first edition of Sounds, a weekly music newspaper from the UK which began publication in October 1970. You can take a look at it here. I turned the recorder on as the two of us leafed through its pages. If you want to listen to the sounds of two old farts reading a music paper and going "Eeh, fancy that" every couple of minutes for a very long time, then this could be your lucky day.

The music in the podcast includes Janis Joplin, GF Fitz-Gerald, East Of Eden, Steeleye Span, Juicy Lucy, Bob Downes Open Music, Blodwyn Pig, Tony Williams Lifetime, Pete Brown & Piblokto, Shelagh McDonald, Clark-Hutchinson, Day Of Phoenix, Cressida and Henry Lowther.

The last part of the podcast is taken up with that rare beast - a concept album by a blues artist. In this instance it's Memphis Slim's 1970 release, The Blue Memphis Suite. There aren't too many blues concept albums that spring to mind. Can you think of any?

You can stream the podcast from the blog page or download to iTunes by clicking on the subscribe button in the player on the page.

The previous podcast featuring music from Dylan Ryan Sand, Ray Russell, Five-Storey Ensemble, Arborea, Pat Metheny, Beserk!, Samuel Rohrer and Terje Rypdal can still be heard here.
