Thread: I had a small stroke last week.

  1. #1

I had a small stroke last week.

OK, here's the Reader's Digest version. I woke up @ about 6:30 AM on Thus to my right art & left feeling incredibly weak - as though they weighed hundreds of pounds. Since June 7th (the day after my birthday), I'd had a numbness in my left hand & left side of my tongue & mouth anyway. I still have these as I write.

I called 911 & ended up in the hospital. Evidently, I had some version of a small stroke. I had X-Rays, a CAT scan & also an ultrasound of my carotid arteries. I was to have an MRI, but my big fat head was too big for the machine so I am to have one elsewhere soon. They say my blood sugar & cholesterol are to high, so these will be worked on more. They also want my stress levels waaaaaay down.

I'm home now & a bit weak. I'm far from 100%, but I'm on my way!

Wow. Scary stuff, John! Glad to hear you're okay, and glad that you called 911. Stroke recovery is all about getting help immediately.

Please keep us posted, if you can, and follow your doctor's orders.

Some days I feel that I might have a stroke with all the stress I deal with. Stress and fatigue are killers, especially at this age. I think the only reason why I haven't had a stroke or heart attack is because I try to hit the gym as often as possible (at least 3 times a week).

Hope you get better. Keep moving. It's when we stop moving our asses that we get sick. Try working on controlling stress and anxiety. Not sure if you're anxious or stressed, but I sure the hell am. Music, a little and a little is keeping me sane.

Hope you get back to 100% soon, John.

I worry about stuff like this; I'm of stroke/heart attack age and not in tip-top shape.

    John,

Thatk God it was "minor", and you're healthy enough to start this thread!

And I agree with Vic2012 - physical fitness etc. can often help to keep these things at bay, and can certainly help relieve stress.

Please keep us posted regarding your recovery.
    Regards,

    Duncan

I echo all the good wishes, John!

Your intuition, I'm sure, saved minimally, your faculties and perhaps worse.

    Well done!
