Djam Karet - Burning The Hard City

The “Best Cuneiform Album” thread persuaded me to dig out some old ones that I have not listened to in a while and I have this one playing as I write this. When people talk about Djam Karet this album rarely seems to be mentioned as a favorite, but I just love this one. I think it rocks all the way through and is still my favorite release from the band. Their material can be very different from album to album and I still have a lot of love for “The Devouring”, which was my introduction to the band, but “Burning” still ranks at the top for me. Any other fans of this one?

Absolutely. One of their best if you ask me. And I too started with the The Devouring.

I much prefer The Devouring. (those are the only two DK album's I own)
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

fun fun album... but the 'other half' Suspension and Displacement is much better
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?

I enjoy this one as well, though I haven't spun this one or Suspension and Displacement for quite a while.

Stylistically, they're totally different. It's a deliberate Yin~Yang thang. Neither "half" can be "better" than the other.

I'd have liked to like this one more than I actually do. It lacks some of the subtlety of later releases. The band seemed more about showing off chops than crafting songs. All imo of course....

Hmmm, I don't get that with any of their albums. Hard City is for me one of their most consistent albums, it fits a different mood than Suspension, but my all time favorite Djam Karet album remains The Firepool.
