It's funny because I know that everyone hears differently and opinions vary, yadda yadda yadda ...
But I can't help but feel that any Procol fan who doesn't list Broken Barricades in their top three is really not completely "in tune" with their brilliance. Songs like the title track and "Luskus Delph" are utterly sublime. And people who can list five albums without it being mentioned are just totally out to lunch on this band, IMO.
Of course, maybe there is a side to them that I find appealing that some others avoid. I could listen to "Luskus Delph" a hundred times in a row and still marvel at its genius. The intimately raw lyrical content is juxtaposed with some of the most haunting melodies Brooker ever coined. The strings are perfect and the synthesizer is so beautifully weaved into it. I would actually go so far as to rank it as "breathtaking" compositional prowess.
