My review of Nicolas Masson / Roberto Pianca / Emanuele Maniscalco, Third Reel, today at All About Jazz.


Following in the tradition Paul Motian's longstanding trio with Bill Frisell and Joe Lovano, this guitar/sax/drums trio's rots are clear, but so, too, is its own emerging voice, as it moves into areas far more overtly pulse-driven, along with the now-deceased drummer's more ethereal and freewheeling approach.
