Small club show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles. I attended both shows and am directly on top of Gene's monitors for both nights

I'm not a huge fan, but there will always be room in my music collection for Double Platinum.

Carnival Of Souls: The Final Sessions

I've been on a Carnival Of Souls kick lately. I loved KISS' moody and experimental side!

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carniva...Final_Sessions

Recorded in late 1995/early 1996, Kiss cancelled the album's original release as they instead committed to a reunion tour with the band's original lineup. Bootleg copies were circulated by fans, prompting the band to officially release the material in 1997.
Some of my faves from this album:

Yeah, it gets dismissed out of hand as "Kiss goes grunge!" but I think it's a pretty darn good album. It's really the only post-Creatures Of The Night" Kiss that I wanna hear.

So, you like experimental Kiss? Do you know The Elder, by chance?

Since Peter Criss sang on the studio version of Mainline, does Eric Singer sing on the live version?

Used to always just call them PISS, thinking they were about the most lame and deluded assholes that ever walked... but now after seeing that they deserve to be referred to in a more dignified light I just call them urine.

Yes, Eric handles the vocals and does a good job.

"Almost Human" (from Love Gun) was the treat for me to finally see/hear live. This Kruise is the first time they have ever performed this live. This has always been a favorite track of mine. I wish Gene would use this as his solo section of the show where he does his bass solo and vomits blood.

Kinda neat to hear them pulling out stuff like Almost Human and Mainline. Nice to also see The Oath in that setlist too. I always liked the video clip I saw, I think they were playing in Australia somewhere, where they sort of teased bits of The Oath and I, with Gene saying something like "I have no idea how that fucking song goes", and Paul says "Maybe there's a reason why we don't remember how to play them".

    Hey Gruno -
How come Gene insists on wearing that dead squirrel on his head? I know he's bald, but can't he get a better rug?

Most fans refer to it as "the raccoon". Although, the racoon seems to have been put into retirement about 10 years ago or longer.

Here in 2001, you can see Gene with his natural hair. Note the hairline. I think this was a good look for him:

As far as his current hair. I believe it is a mixture of real hair and implants. He wears a full wig on stage, as does Paul Stanley. They don't really hide that fact now and consider it part of the stage uniform. In years past (circa 1990), crew members would get fired on the spot if any mention of the word "wig" was made. There was an entire road case designated specifically for the wigs to dry between shows.

    This look really fits Gene:

    And Paul, to a degree:

What has really messed up Gene is his dumb facelift he did:

Ive said it on PE countless times: If a person judges KISS by music alone, they are completely missing the point.

KISS isnt a band. They are the epitome of a much larger category: they are "Entertainment" ---- and that's a huge distinction

Gene should have bit the bullet and shaved his head years ago. He'd look, ironically, younger.

Paul with a shaved head and a suit screams "Sopranos extra."

    Still, he's aged really well.

The Paul as a bald man pic is a photoshop thing. Paul's been using extensions since the late 80s and wigs since 96.

The bald Gene pic is makeup done for a tv thing.

Paul is in great shape. Especially for someone in their mid 60s. Paul MacCartney, The Rolling Stones, The Who...they all put on classic rock shows and entertain for a couple of hours live on stage. Paul and Gene, in their 60s, put on a great show while wearing 7 inch boots and all that stage gear while jumping around and such. Every show I see I am amazed at their energy.

I think Paul Stanley is an incredible singer. Blows away most prog rock singers.
And Kiss has never been about technical playing, it's about playing with your dick!

And the song Nowhere To Run is awesome! Paul does some amazing things vocally.

This is probably my favorite Kiss song of all time!
