could it be "waxing" as in pontificating, as in a recorded conversation?
could it be "waxing" as in pontificating, as in a recorded conversation?
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
As I understand it the Let's Make a Hit Waxing CD is a compilation of the best moments of the studio sessions and it’s a new mix from the multitrack tapes. It’s not a jam and it has never been bootlegged because it is brand new (not the recording but the mix and the selection). The name come from Robert Fripp who can be heard saying it on a studio tape.
^Similar to "Keep That One, Nick" from the Larks' boxset or "Are You Recording, Gary?" on the 80s box.
I want to dynamite your mind with love tonight.
Thanks. What do those best moments consist of, I wonder. Is it complete songs as we know them from the album, or a collection of bits from the songs, or improv bits from when the band gets loose, or what? A bit odd that they call it a "single track". A single track on the CD, maybe, but a collection of who knows how many bits. I don't own the Larks box or the 80's box, if I did I might have a better idea.
Correct, Steven Wilson has never been involved with the Genesis remasters or remixes. In fact, he's stated more than once that he was never a fan of Genesis. But he liked Steve Hackett's solo stuff, which is why he did those Hackett remixes a few years back.
I'm holding out for the Wilson-mixed 5.1 super-duper walletbuster special anniversary extra adjectives edition.
I only vaguely remember that... But SW did sing on "Can-Utility..." on "Genesis Revisited 2". It's hard to imagine him not liking Genesis after hearing "The Watchmaker"... If anything, I find it more difficult to believe he liked ELP much, although he remixed the first couple of albums. Or that he would have turned down remixing the Genesis albums from 1970-77 if given the chance.

I agree it seems kinda hard to believe, but he has said in at least two different interviews that he was never really a fan of Genesis. I believe one of them was when he remixed Misplaced Childhood (when he discussed the comparisons of Marillion to Genesis and that he didn't agree with the comparison), and then one around the time his remixes of the Steve Hackett albums were coming out. It surprised me, since Genesis seemed more in his wheelhouse than someone like ELP. But to each their own.
Hard to believe the guy who brought us The Watchmaker was never a fan of Genesis.

There was a "prog quiz" thing he did with Mikael Akerfeldt several years ago I think, and one of the questions was which Genesis song was the first to feature Phil Collins on lead vocals. Steven answered correctly with "For Absent Friends" off Nursery Cryme, where some folks might have guessed "More Fool Me". So while he may not be a Genesis fan, he evidently has some familiarity with their music. I'd be surprised if he didn't like at least a few of their songs here and there.
I honestly thought his ELP gigs were pure money gigs too, and that he wasn't really a fan.
I also doubt he was asked about the Genesis catalog...pretty sure they were only ever going to work with Nick Davis on that project.

At first, I was concerned about Frippy's well being (more mental than physical) between the hands of the missus in those vids, but he redressed the balance after a few weeks....
However I think we're losing both now
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
In other news, the 2020 Tour box includes excerpts from an upcoming Exposures box set.
Just wanted to share my chat with Jakko J from a few days ago, in case any of you missed it.
