Iron Maiden's Piece Of Mind Is 30 Today

Shame on you, PE members, for not starting this thread first. Oh well. Guess I'm here to save the day. Can't believe Iron Maiden's fourth album turned 30 today. This is one of my top three favorite Maiden discs(Killers and the debut are the other two). Die With Your Boots On and Quest For Fire are my two favorite songs. Can't think of much else to say but..... UP THE IRONS!! Who's with me?

I'm with you. I think it is their best, my favorite collection in any case:

    01. Where Eagles Dare - An undeniable classic based on a classic war movie. 1000 s
    02. Revelations (6:12-13:01)
    03. Flight Of Icarus (13:01-16:51) A stone cold metal classic. Can't hear this one enough.
    04. Die With Your Boots On (16:51-22:18)
    05. The Trooper (22:18-26:30) Still played at every Maiden show, I love it, plus the awesome Eddie the RedCoat fighting the Russians.
    06. Still Life (26:30-31:26) A hidden gem, I love this one for it's hook.
    07. Quest For Fire (31:26-35:08)
    08. Sun And Steel (35:08-38:35)
    09. To Tame A Land (38:35-46:01) SF fans will recognize the setting for this one is the planet Dune.

    Bonus Tracks:
    10. I've Got The Fire [Montrose Cover] (46:01-48:41)
    11. Cross Eyed Mary [Jethro Tull Cover] (48:41-52:35)

Holy Shit! I never knew these 2 were on the bonus! Listen here:

I think if you hold a gun to my head and make me choose ONE Mainden album over all the others it'd be this album. Really, for me personally this band was at their absolute peak with POM and Powerslave. I'm not ignoring Number Of The Beast, it's just that I've never actually heard that album (besides a few tracks here and there).

Anyway, great band, great album. Any excuse to talk about Iron Maiden is cool with me.

Great album. Nicko brought a looser feel to the table.
And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make.

I feel so old....I remember being excited about this coming out. 30 years....dang.

Great album, still holds up well, but I have to admit I never was that thrilled with Quest For Fire and Sun and Steel. To me, they are pure filler.

Although I'm only familiar with tracks 3-5, if the rest of it's even a fraction as good as everything else I've heard from them this album should unquestionably be celebrated. (fwiw Flight of Icarus is one of my all-time favorite songs.)
