    Sun Ra

The discussion about favorite keyboard "solos" has me thinking about Saturn's favorite son himself. A true eccentric, a great bandleader, and one of my favorite keyboardists:

Ra and the Arkestra also starred in what I believe is the only sci-fi/blaxploitation/musical ever produced, the legendary Space Is The Place:

How can you not love a film that ends like that?!

It occurs to me that Space Is The Place and Head would make the perfect double feature.

Big fan. Probably my favorite jazz artist.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Never let good music get in the way of making a profit.

Have enjoyed Mr. Ra for years. Immensely entertaining as well as intriguing. A friend lent me a VHS tape of Space is the Place about a dozen years ago and was just mesmerized.

For anyone who cares to tune in, I'm playing 4 hours of Sun Ra on tonight's Journey Of The Sorcerer's Apprentice.
