My review of Anglo/Norwegian trio Eyes of a Blue Dog's debut recording, Rise, today at All About Jazz.

Comprise of British trumpter/guitarist Rory Simmons (Fringe Magnetic), drummer/percussionist Terje Evensen (Spin Marvel) and singer Elisabeth Nygård (MooV), this electro-acoustic ensemble runs the gamut from fiery improvisations and ethereal landscapes to post-Bjork songscapes. There may be plenty of seamless electronics applied to the picture, but at the core, Evensen and Simmons are also fine acoustic instrumentalists, giving Rise some added jazz cred in addition to its crossover avant-pop potential.
