I've been completely disappointed lately by my 10 year old KRK's (pre Rokit series) 4" near field monitors- It may actually be my ears that are changing and not the monitors, but my mixes are all over the place. I've done some reading, and I'm leaning towards the Yamaha HS80M's. I use3d to pair the KRK's with Event 20/20 8" for a more accurate experience, but I sold the 20/20's (wish I had that sale back)
I really need a monitor that really brings out the truth in the mix, doesn't color or hide the stuff that seems to be popping out all over my current mixes.
I'm also considering picking up something to mimic an am car radio - any suggestions for that - I assume you don't have to spend a fortune on something like that...
I'm not looking to do any professional mixing, so Genelecs aren't on my list, but I have been out of the loop for some time on what's really good in the monitoring world.
