Prog on the net ...Prog on the airwaves? What stations outside the net play prog??

JY here from Lifesigns ....just wondered we've done a lot of stuff recently for net radio and we are most grateful . That said with the new single out (yes it's prog Jim etc) it would be nice to hit an airwave or two. Just received a lovely email from Julian Belanger at CJAM 99.1 covering Detroit/Windsor and he has a prog based show. So would be intrigued to find out what other shows exist outside the realms of the internet.
    best regards

Hi John. It's so hard to find any, and I doubt anyone in the UK is doing it. I worked with Rock Radio here in the UK up until a couple of years ago (part of real radio now - real radio XS), doing the "prog blog" for their website. I asked the Glasgow station manager about the possibility of me, or someone else for that matter, doing a prog show once a week for a couple of hours, but despite being a Rock only station, the idea wasn't taken up by the Board. (too niche even for a niche station?)

Having said that, Real Radio XS & Planet Rock do at least play some prog, and no doubt you've hit the "taste makers" at Planet Rock, like Paul Anthony. If you sent something to Tom Russell at XS in Glasgow I am sure he'd pick up on it on his Friday Rockshow, as Tom likes his prog too. I'll be doing likewise when my band's single is ready for release soon.

BTW, I totally love the Lifesigns album - you all did a fantastic job with everything, from the playing, vocals, songwriting, production and also the artwork. Totally top drawer. Now all we need is the tour ! (and I will gladly find you a decent place to play in Glasgow, even if I have to promote it myself!)

    martiprog,

Although the show is not exclusively 'prog', Stuart Maconie's 'Freak Zone' on BBC 6 Music on Sunday evenings between 20:00 and 22:00 plays quite a lot (Zappa, New Trolls, Happy The Man, amongst others all in last Sunday's show), so I suggest you give it a try.

He has the even more eclectic 'Freakier Zone' moving to Saturday/Sunday midnight from this weekend:

    John.

p.s - He has played one or two from the 'Lifesigns' album.

    Hi John,

Thanks for the heads-up. I will give it a try. I like Maconie, and his book "Cider With Roadies" was a hoot - his reminiscences of teenage years trying to cop off with girls whilst playing Brain Salad Surgery & Hocus Pocus still bring a smile to my face (surely most of us guys over the age of 50 can relate to this)

I host a progressive rock radio show on the dial at 88.3FM here in Cleveland, Ohio. WBWC. This will be the program's 10th year on-the-air. Just surpassed the 500th show a few weeks ago. Tonight we'll be doing our annual ROSfest feature program...

    http://www.progressiveears.org/forum...-April-30-2013

...Definitely cool to hear about other programs on the dial being involved in the broadcasting side of things.

WXPN (88.5) in Philadelphia is quite prog-friendly. While coveragea wide range of styles, I hardly ever go a day without hearing something prog-oriented. Of course one of our PE'ers is a DJ there and can maybe give you a bit more of the specifics.

The Gagliarchives hosted by Tom Gagliardi has been broadcasting a prog show in Burlington County NJ since around 1992 or so. It's on Saturday nights 10pm eastern standard time on 88.9 wbcz.

John, I've just started a show called "Progressive Tracks" on my hometown community radio station (KPTZ 91.9 Port Townsend, Washington / KPTZ.org).

I'm on from 9 - 10 PM Mondays (Pacific Daylight Time), just trying to bring some quality music to those who otherwise wouldn't have a clue about our genre.....("Is there anybody out there?").

It's so new I've only done 3 shows so far, and am working out the 'bugs', but I have Lifesign's "Carousel" programmed to play on May 27th - it's a great tune!

    Thanks for the great music!
    "Be Well... Prog On!"

"The Progressive Tracks Show" on KPTZ 91.9 FM / KPTZ.org - Sundays at 5:00 AM and Mondays at 9:00 PM (Pacific Times)
also on Progzilla Radio / Progzilla.com in the UK - Saturdays at 6:30 PM and Mondays at 2:30 PM (Pacific Times)

Although not specificaly prog, W-NTI serving NW NJ & NE PA on 91.9 out of Hackettstown NJ is prog friendly... www.wnti.org
Deep cuts and new artists (especially local ones) are featured throughout and it's a station which is "Like a box o' chocolates"... you never know what you're gonna get. It's a breath of fresh airwaves.

    John,

You probably already got this, but "this just in". Press release today for a new UK DAB radio station with dedicated Prog shows among it's programming. Your timing is impeccable!

Hi - I produce and host a show on London's Resonance 04.4 FM called The Other Rock Show. Now in its 10th year, the ORS is an hour of music that goes beyond standard song structures - regulars include Thinking Plague, Cardiacs, Magma, Upsilon Acrux, Mahogany Frog, Van Der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, Yugen, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Hatfield and the North, Art Bears, Koenjihyakkei, Ruins, Dominique Leone, Gosta Berlings Saga and loads more... The show is broadcast live every Sunday 9pm across London (I've caused near car crashes from unsuspecting Gentle Giant fans) and streamed via www.resonancefm.com. Resonance is now experimenting with Soundcloud replays, so you can hear some recent shows on the Other Rock Show blog/website: http://otherrockshow.wordpress.com/
