I agree 100% with this. The first one I ever heard was Solar Fire and I couldn't pull it out of my 8-trak player for 2 weeks. It remains my favorite. Mercury(Winged Messenger yadda yadda yadda reminds me of something Mahavishnu Orchestra would do.....anyone else get that?)

Mmmmhhh!!!... Agree, thiough I find both albums a tad muddy in terms of production.
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I only have The Roaring Silent, and I love it. Love the Earth Band's brand of prog, especially's Mann's Moog playing. I dig their cover of For You.

I like the Mick Rogers era the best. Watching him sing Father Of Day,Father Of Night in the Angel Station dvd is priceless. Love that guy's voice.

Well, I discovered a 1974 performance that's pretty good too,so I'm posting 3,1974,1999,2012. Love the way Manfred is using headphones to pre-program the minimoog for his solo later on. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=8qF-z7BctPI

...and criminally ignored! A great band with terrific songs and arrangements, and more "out" saxophone than any rock band I can think of. (I was lucky to catch them in '69, in a small club).

Big Manfred fan, I could agree with this list except eliminate debut and substitute "2006" from 2004.

I'll go with that. I especially loved the bass playing on those albums by Steve York from East of Eden. And the saxophone playing is incredible and for me personally, one of the rare times when Sax really works in a rock context (From my POV, I'd rather hear a Gilmour guitar solo tha Dick Parry's sax on Dark Side, and a Springsteen or Van Zandt riff over Clarence Clemons). And I think Manfred Mann has become a bit of a curmudgeon. I interviewed him in the 90s and he was pretty gruff and very dismissive of his 70s work.

Well I'm such a big fan of this band I actually am in a tribute to them - can look us up here if interested: http://http://www.mannfredsearth.co.uk/

But enough plugging, love the early period with Mick Rogers, and a huge fan of Chris Thompson's singing.

My top 5 albums would be (though not always necessarily in this order):
The Roaring Silence (and not because it has "Blinded by the Light", though that's a great song too - the real highlights for me are "Questions" and "The Road to Babylon")
    Watch
    Solar Fire
    Angel Station
    The Good Earth

They're still a very good live band (looking forward to seeing them this September, for the first time with Robert Hart on vocals) though would be nice if they got a bit more adventurous with their setlists.
It definitely seems like Manfred doesn't really rate the early stuff...
