Funny, it’s the one I like the best of the bunch.

A very good year so far: Entity, Aurora Luneare, Lagartija, Nodo Gordiano, Accordo Dei Contrari, Syndone, Greenwall, Randone, Möbius Project,
Astrolabibo, LogoS, Latte e Miele etc. etc. (can't decied yet which are the best)
The new Nodo Gordiano is another promising one (it’s been too long since their last one, and like that one, Nous is too-little discussed) as is the LogoS. More research required, definitely. I am surely in need of hearing the new AdC, considering how much I liked their last two (I seem to keep forgetting they have a new one. Making it self-titled probably isn’t helping their case.).

I can see that the Ad Moira is very good they are just not very "Italian" in what they do, so thats maybe what is disturbing me.

Italian bands tend to be rather ignored, and even the best are hardly discussed here.

Been listening a lot to Kingcrow recently, seen heavily influenced by Porcupine Tree circa In Absentia. Great stuff!

I think that Barock Project are working on a new album for some time. I've read some posts on their FB fanpage where there have been hints. I think that the record should be in the latter working stages. Don't know if they've actually recorded, produced, mixed etc. it yet.
I think that they're one of the more interesting italian prog bands.

That is correct, they are finished with recording the Album and are working on the following steps.
There will be also a live DVD soon.

Banco will perform live in December!

As it looks vocals will be handeled by their old friend Angelo Branduardi and John de Leo (wow!)

Who ever does't know de Leo should check out Quintorigo (till 2005 with de Leo) (very underrated band here)

Does anybody have heared the Banco (half) "live" Album "un'idea che non puoi fermare". Awesome stuff!

Fantastic thread. Turned me on to some new amazing music.

    LOVING:

Ingranaggi della Valle - In Hoc Signo
Moogg - Le Ore, I Giorni, Gli Anni
    SKE-1000 autunni
Magnetic Sound Machine - Chances And Accidents

    Anything else similar to these?

    Cheers!

I think this one is great

It has a lot of Italian folk influences, and good songs within the songs

First couple of spins have been enjoyable, I hope this one continues to have legs

I own all but the Ske album (did own that, but it wasn't really for me).

The easiest recommendation is Magnetic Sound Machine's first album, Chromatic Tunes from 2008. It's almost every bit as good as Chances & Accidents. Sadly, I would say avoid at all costs their new one, which is a rendering of Camel's Snow Goose, with voice overs in Italian. To me, this album didn't play to any strengths of the band and adds nothing to Camel's version (save the voice overs, which I find painfully distracting). If someone is dying to have it, I'll sell you my copy.

Sticking to fairly recent Italian Prog, the others I'd recommend are the Accordo dei Contrari albums, Not a Good Sign, and Progenesi's Ulisse: L'Alfiere Nero. Fonderia might also be of interest to you, iirc they remind me a bit of Moogg at times. I actually bought the Moogg because of this thread, and haven't listened to it a ton, so my memory may be a little off on this.

The other one I'd toss out there is a little known band called Altare Thotemico. They don't sound like any of the bands above, but come from the same "spirit." They put one out last year called Sogno Errando that I thought was very interesting. The band is slanted toward the vocals and vocal explorations of the lead singer, evoking some comparisons to DeM and Area. This album though has a bit better balance of music than their first, and has an interesting sort of jazzy vibe, without at all being jazz. Definitely not for everyone, but perhaps worth exploring.

    A pleasure!

I've gotten quite a bit out of this thread. The Italian scene is incredibly deep, it's hard to keep up. I was sampling the Stranafonia this morning, and that is one I'm going to consider. But it's been fun hearing all this stuff!
