Heard the whole album of Control Denied. The second half was pretty technical and prog-metally. Like it a lot.

Never been a fan of this group. I should like them but I'm just not into the lead vox and the keyboard sounds/tones. Listening to DT...Train of Thought. A bit down tuned but it's pretty heavy and over indulgent.

Those guys lost me, too. I like everything up through Awake.

On the other hand, the latest Fates Warning album kicked my ass.

I kinda like TOT. It's heavy and technical, and Labrie sounds better with growly vocals, but jeezuz every track is 11 minutes long.

You might like Train of Thought. It's the heaviest of the latter albums and not cheesery at all.
Duncan's going to make a Horns Emoticon!!!

IMO the 12-minute "Stream Of Consciousness" track alone is worth the price of admission.

I've always thought it was one of the best DT later-era tracks.
    Regards,

    Duncan

I heard all of TOT. It's good but I think Watchtower (anything by Watchtower) blows TOT away.

I don't disagree, but the comment says more about how awesome Watchtower are not that DT are unawesome.

    Looking in your directions, Duncan/Eric:

    https://zealandardor.bandcamp.com/track/erase

Not a full album, doesn't seem to want to embed. But Zeal + Ardor are pretty amazing.

Still one of my own favorite tracks:

If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: http://www.ephemeralsun.com

Thanks, John! It sounds great - nice mix of elegant instrumentation and hard-assed (occasional) growls.

I went looking for more - but that seems to be the only track available on bandcamp. Scratching around on YouTube now...
    Regards,

    Duncan

Quite a nice effort after a well-recieved debut. With The Dark Monarchy's second album, my needs in terms of bombast, variation and musical performance, are entirely satisfied this time. I am an avowed fan of bombast prog-metal, and for me this Ontario's band is doing well in this field, kitschy and clichéd or not.
In my humble opinion, All Roads Lead to Rome the album does not contain a single weak song, not even weak passages. For me, the song "Drain the Sea" is the quintessence of what this subgenre of metal music can do these days. Recommend heartily for the fans of symphonic / progressive metal.

I was going to post this in the stoner thread but it is far too varied to fit under that pigeonhole.

Listening to it right this second. It's kinda a thrashy Accept. But it's fast, and thrashy. Love it.

"Of Brine And Angel's Beak" is a new CD of English band Azure. The album consists of some catchy tunes and can be recommended to anyone who is into the more proggy & melodic branch of power metal. All along this album, we're exposed to passionate vocals, rush rhythms, fast drumming, lovely guitar playing, pleasant synth-work that filling out the space in an almost orchestral way. A delightful record indeed!

Revisited Sabbath first album because of the Technical Ecstacy thread. What a masterpiece that first album is.
