I'm not sure this would be considered full blown metal but I'm currently listening to Sound Awake by Karnivool. It's kind of like Tool light (although the vocals are bit more like C&C or TMV).

Last night on America's Got Talent a choir auditioned. Turns out they were all hard rockin' cookie monsters. I don't know how far in the competition they'll get but it was kinda cool. Music starts at :55

I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart
I'm listening to the 'Pirate metal' band (yes, that's a real genre) Alestorm and their new album Seventh Rum Of A Seventh Rum. It's ridiculously silly but awfully fun. I'm guessing it would be perfect for a big party where everyone is quite drunk.

Different. Nothing to write home about, but fun, and should have universal appeal to everyone in this thread.

A long time ago (10-15 plus years ago) I bought a lot of heavy prog and prog metal usually because they were inexpensive. Some good and some not so good. The one I'm listening to now probably falls somewhere in the middle and that is the first album by Ian Parry's Consortium Project.

Ran across this today. Been listening to Warp Riders today.
Here's an excellent performance/arrangement/cover of a Malmsteen song (Far Beyond the Sun, one of his best easily) that was excellent to begin with! I don't remember whether I posted it before. The violin performance alone is amazing.

P.S. Also, I think that having the (non-electric) violin play the loud and distorted and super busy lead guitar parts has made the song's sound both lighter and more clearly classical-crossover, more listenable/accessible to a portion of listeners of classical music who would otherwise ignore this song --- who still might :-)
