    D'OH! I see Jed's post now.

I have issues with cookie monster vox so only a few of those bands worked for me but they REALLY worked: Visigoth, Haunt, and Windhand.
I don't like country music, but I don't mean to denigrate those who do. And for the people who like country music, denigrate means 'put down.'- Bob Newhart

For me, the best metal album of 2018 just might be Satan's "Cruel Magic". For those that aren't familiar, they were a NWOBHM band that formed in the late 70s. They kind of sound like Iron Maiden but with more thrashy elements. The riffs are extraordinary and the songs are mostly very melodic and can stick in your head for days. For me, this album and Priest's "Firepower" are the standouts from 2018

    Listening to Megadeth....
    The System Has Failed.

I think that, of the so-called, Big Four, Mega is the most technical.

Listen to Megadeth's Endgame if you haven't already. Still the best post-Rust In Peace album.

I've heard Endgame once. I'll check it out again. But TSHF is just awesome.

No problem, Jerrol! I haven't read the listing yet, but I know with these Bandcamp lists I always end up buying a lot of new, interesting stuff. Maybe I'm a bit hesitant as I already have a lot of new and recent stuff to listen to. I just posted it because Duncan was looking for some new suggestions.

Firepower is definitely in the running for me. I've also been enjoying:

    Slash - Living the Dream
    Tremonti - A Dying Machine
    Wytch Hazel - II: Sojourn
    Voivod - The Wake
    Tu veux un camembert?

Been binging on Resurrection Band all weekend. They were a pre-Stryper, Christian, heavy guitar band. Great band, great songs, great guitars, vocals, bass....etc.

Holy crap, dude! I've got the remasters of Mommy Don't Love Daddy Anymore and DMZ right next to me. MDLDA is killa...sounds like maybe Grace Slick and Bob Seger decided to front a '70s style hard rock band...well, that's exactly what they sound like. No Stryper-isms.

Yeah I never noticed how Glenn Kaiser does sound a little like Bob Seger. I used have a bunch of their albums on vinyl way back when. Good band.

I'm listening to Rez albums I've never heard before since I lost interest in the 80s. Now listening to Civil Rights. My God they rock. They obviously took music making seriously. The guitars and bass are powerful. Not sure I'd call it heavy metal because of the blues influence, but damn are they a mean, tight band. I don't care about the whole Christian thing, this band was BAD ASS.

Here is the first song from that album.
I haven't listened to them in a long time, but they are a good band.

    -Bravewords

“The album is solid, with truly unique and mesmerizing progressions of chords and lead work piled high.”
    -Contaminated Tones

“A nightmarish journey that reveals one chilling, hallucinatory vision after another.”
    -No Clean Singing

Rez Band isn't metal, but they dole out the bitch slaps just the same. I just played DMZ from start to end — as good as anything mainstream back then. Stu's guitar intro to "White Noise" is badass. SICK tone.

May as well post what we're talking about.

    NP:Maiden.......Fear Of The Dark.

Criminally underrated. I like it better than some of their recent albums.

Agree, a much better album than many give it credit for.

Curious.....anyone here familiar with the band Sabaton? I had never heard of them, but they played my area back in the fall. I read a review of their show and have been checking out some of their stuff online and like a lot of it. There is even a bit of a prog metal element to some of their stuff. Anyone into them and if so what album would you recommend.

Been listening to Saigon Kick. Good, melodic metal. Not sure why they never made it big. Maybe they were a few years late.

    Still on this Saigon Kick....

Seriously, "Love Is On The Way" is a gorgeous song. They are heavy metal Beach Boys......from Florida.

    Here's some decent modern metal:

    Amorphis : Queen of Time

There are a FEW cookie monster growls. put on yer big-boy pants and work through them - the album is one of the better things to come out in 2018.

    Duncan

I think you'll enjoy it, Jon.

It's doing well in the SoT best of 2018 poll. 'Course, the new 'Priest is leading the poll. Pity ... it's very good, but unimaginative pot-boiling, IMO. Been there, done that, looking for something new. On a non-metal note, the new Riverside is also doing well in the poll. I think it's excellent.
    Regards,

    Duncan
