When I first started exploring the Sunshine Pop universe, the Mark Eric album was exactly the kind of hidden treasure I had hoped to find. It always amazes me that albums this good could fall through the cracks, even though it happens a lot in the music biz. As we all know too well, it happens in the prog world a lot as well. And this day and age, with so many bands and artists to check out, it's even gotten worse. So much music, so little time. Anyhow, glad I was able to turn you onto something cool!

Very true. Really excited about this, I may not be able to wait for the cd before going and listening more as that first song was pure perfection. (couldn't pull up the clip you posted on my work computer)

Time for some sunshine during these dark days.
I just listened to the Silverlake album a couple days ago which i still find absolutely brilliant.

Check this little number out, especially the middle bridge section around 1:50 gets especially sunshiney.

The digital versions of the new Explorers Club albums are up on Spotify and elsewhere. I've listened to both the covers album and the originals album and man, if you're a fan already, you're going to be one happy camper. Excellent work as usual. This link was posted by Jason Brewer over on facebook. http://smarturl.it/TheExplorersClub

The Explorers Club is a fun and pleasant excursion into this particular sound, but it makes me wonder the point of doing something that is so clearly a pastiche of a sound from the late 1960s. I feel the same way about some Prog Rock and a LOT of Psychedelic Rock that try to sound as if they were recorded 50 years ago. I mean, it's cute and clever, but is it art or simply imitation?

Personally, I find the majority of bands who do that are doing it out of pure love for that era of music. The Wondermints for instance, yeah, their music is art to me. Their sound and style were so authentic that Brian Wilson now has them as his backing band, and he finally finished Smile with their help. If that doesn't make them the real deal, I don't know what does. As for The Explorers Club, Judging by a lot of what Jason Brewer posts on Facebook, their music comes from a very authentic place as well. They never venture into the avenue of parody, and they capture multiple styles so well, I can't help but love what they do.
