    Gong-2032...thoughts?

I just dl'd this from Amazon and listening for the first time. I really like it so far and the rap stuff is enjoyable. So, I don't hate rap perse' but when it's joyful and filled with positivity the this band is wont to do,it's great. What do you all think? I can't believe I held off for 4 years to get this.

I quite like this one. There's a few awful tunes (the space whisper stuff just doesn't work anymore) and a few great tunes ("How To Stay Alive").

My remembrance is that this one got slagged here on PE, but I quite like it.

An enjoyable blast-from-the -past reunion album.
And I think they were referring to the 'rap' more as the old-style 'beat poetry'.
Everything is Positive on the planet Gong !

I'm not a big Gong fan, but I thought this was a terrific album.

With the exception of Zero getting seduced by Yoni the witch.

Hillage's guitar playing is maybe the best he's sounded imo

    Very disappointing album...

I blame it on Hillage and Giraudy
my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.

I wrote an extensive review on the old PE when the album got out. I was pretty disappointed and it didn't grew on me. Very average album, even compared to their 90s ones...

I like it way better than Shapeshifter and haven't yet heard Zero To Infinitea.

And don't even get me started with Acid Motherhood. Why did I keep that? Because I'm embarrassed to show anyone the front cover. lol

I just played that clip, and I don't know how I feel about the "rap" influence. I don't think I'll grab it since it is supposed to be one of the best songs according to you guys.

Absolutely agree on this point. He does nothing really distinctive or Hillage-y on this album. I expect more from him.

    Travis slays, though.

I'm pretty sure that clip above is the only rap on the album. It was chosen for the single,so naturally it had to have universal appeal. The rest of the album sounds like the Gong of the mid 70's and Hillage is killing on some of his guitar solos. He sure hasn't forgotten how to play that's a given. You have to get Gong Live at UnCon 2006 and the Hillage dvd from there as well. Our own Cindy Lee Rule is iirc, playing with Gong on that.

That's not rap and wouldn't appeal to fans of rap.

2032 would be a much better album if it was half as long. Also, it is completely brickwalled mastering.

I prefer Acid Mother Gong to any of the reformation albums, but there's something good on all of them.
