American Football (though I enjoy some of the Rugby sevens tourneys that make their way to American tv)
Gaelic football v Australian Rules football (Idk either of these )
Baseball (not that I really enjoy it)
    Lacrosse
    Basketball (though really neither)
Ice Hockey v Field Hockey (both )
    Swimming
    Handball
    Short track skating
Track & Field (though both are quite enjoyable)

Sorry for being a wuss with the hockeys.

    American Football

Australian Rules football - I have no idea what Gaelic football is.

    Baseball

Hurling v Lacrosse -tough call, I'm more familiar with Lacrosse and like it, but hurling is a very cool sport.

    Basketball
    Ice Hockey
    Swimming
    Volleyball
    Slalom
    Track & Field

    And I'll add one:

Bocce v Curling - Bocci, even if it's an old man sport

    One more:

Pistol/Rifle v Archery - I've only done these once, and at least hit the target with the rifle. I sucked at archery.

    And....

Golf v Bowling - again, I sucked at both. I guess being outdoors wins, I'll go with golf. As a tv spectator, I can enjoy the golf highlights, bowling is dreadful to watch.

    NFL/CFL Football
    Basketball

Any event in the summer or winter Olympics that doesn't involve judging, shooting, or horses (exception: women's figure skating for the usual straight male reasons)(and recognizing that the IOC is the most corrupt governing sports body in recorded history)

    My 10 are:
    Rugby
    Gaelic football
    Cricket
    Hurling
    Football
    Field hockey
    Cycling
    Volleyball
    Short track skating
    Track & field

Now with your 10 winners from the first round, pair them off in strict order for Round Two, so 1 on your list meets 2 on your
list and so on. However for an added twist, there should be 4 winners and one drawn match. The 4 winners go forward to the semi-finals.

So my Round Two matches are:
    Rugby v Gaelic football
    Cricket v Hurling
    Football v Hockey (field)
    Cycling v Volleyball
Short track skating v Track & field

And from that my semi-finalists are:
    Rugby
    Cricket
    Football
    Cycling

    Short track v T & F was a draw - both eliminated

It's obvious that Americans are gonna pick American sports. It's got nothing to do with one being "better" than the other. We love the sports we grew up with.

    My Choices are:

    American Football (Natch )

Aussie Rules (because I've never seen Gaelic Football but have seen Aussie Rules and Rugby)

Baseball (not a big fan of Baseball but I'd watch it over soccer, hockey, tennis, volleyball). I actually prefer to watch women's softball over baseball to be honest .

LaCrosse (I've only seen collegiate Lacrosse but it looks exciting). In the USA "hurling" might be the sport of beer drinkers and hell raisers

    Basketball

Neither (don't care for hockey of any type)

I must admit I find volleyball boring. It's a fast game but there are too many abrupt stops. I'd rather watch ping-pong (table tennis)

I'd rather watch swimming than cycling

Gymnastics is a great spectator sport. I prefer female gymnastics

    It's short for "naturally."

Very true. So I'm not shocked when I hear someone outside the US pick cricket and soccer. But Field hockey over ice hockey? Really??? I laugh when I see these field hockey players bent over with those short sticks. Why not just make the sticks longer? It's got to be murder on one's back. And in the US, when we think of field hockey, we think back to high school and so many brutish girls playing the sport. There were exceptions, but damn, those girls were a little scary! Terrible, I know, I shouldn't say that. Ice hockey is a very physical sport, lots of exciting hitting -no, not the fights, I actually hate that part. High speed, lots of action. I really don't watch the sport on tv much at all, but in person its very exciting. OK, when the Olympics rolls around next year, I'll certainly watch all the team USA hockey games.

Thomas, you do know there is a whole World out there once you get past the US borders don't you? Not everyone likes the same stuff, US sports are not automatically the best, English ones are obviously superior.

Field hockey is one of the great joys of the summer Olympics for me (only time I see the damned thing on tv).

    Not-popular-in America-sports FTW! (Except cricket...and soccer)

Oh, yeah? We could totally kick everyone else in the world's ass in Tee Ball if they were allowed to keep score.
