French progressive music encyclopedia is out NOW!

The Freeman brothers have done it again! I got in today's mail my copy of Twilight of the Alchemists: Encyclopedia of French progressive rock, experimental, electronic music, etc.

It is an impressive book, I even don't know where to start studying it. The most important section is of course The French Prog Scene - almost 200 pages of artists, their discographies, band members and description of their music. But there are separate sections of other musical styles related to prog, lots of useful info (producers, engineers, studios, cover art, record labels etc. etc.) Many pages of color and b/w pictures of artists and album covers. And so much more, 368 pages in total and large format. Forgive me my excitement ;-).

There is also a French Top 100 by the authors and A Facebook friends' top 30, where also I took part. Guess what is the number 1 album?

The book is already on my shelf: Twilight.jpg

For those who would be interested in ordering this fantastic book, this is the link: http://www.ultimathulerecords.com/twilight.html

That looks mightily impressive. I do not have a vast knowledge of French Prog, besides the headline acts (Ange, Clearlight, Magma, Gong and their vast retinue, but not sure if the later counts), so I might be tempted to grab a copy and explore some new avenues.

I would have never guessed it myself, but no 1 was Lard Free - III (not part of my personal Top 30). But No 2 was great - Eskaton, 4 Visions
