For me it's any band that does their own take on "Apocalypse in 9/8". It's an immediate "nope" from me where I'll just skip that part of the song.

Apocalypses seem to be popular but definitely overplayed… I look for abstract offerings with economical words that let the listener put together his/her own story. Inspiring the imagination. It can be done without lyrics as well.
Hearing an obvious copy of the Watcher Of The Skies intro riff.
And so many singers sound like Phil Collin’s or Steve Wilson. It’s uncanny.
Weak-ass singers who ruin otherwise decent music. Modern prog is loaded with them, and they end up sounding incredibly amateurish as a result.

Looking back now, even Genesis 9/8 was a long-winded and monotonous affair. I remember getting out of my chair to skip over it on my turntable.
Still alive and well...

I know it doesn't make sense, but I like those Genesis bits when played by other bands better than I like them by Genesis! Two that come to mind are IQ and Ad Infinitum. I never clicked with Genesis; although there were a few songs I liked I never wanted to own the albums when I heard them in full. I even like when other singers blatantly copy Gabriel's voice, like with Mangala Vallis or The Watch, better than I like Gabriel himself!
While I do like modern bands that stretch and expand the boundaries of prog into new territory, I also like those that harken back to classic 70's styles with vintage analog keyboard sounds and the like. It's just a comfort zone for me, I guess.

You say Mega Ultra Deluxe Special Limited Edition Extended Autographed 5-LP, 3-CD, 4-DVD, 2-BlueRay, 4-Cassette, five 8-Track, MP4 Download plus Demos, Outtakes, Booklet, T-Shirt and Guitar Pick Gold-Leafed Box Set Version like it's a bad thing...
If the album cover looks AI generated, that's a turnoff for sure. I see this cover on Prog Archives for example, and I really can't tell if it's AI generated or just digital art that's way too shiny. That's generally a style I dislike too, since a hand-painted version of the same image would look much less cheesy.

Also one of the PA reviewers thinks that the female voice on the album could be AI as well, since no women are credited with singing. That would be a turnoff if true.
I personally love it when a contemporary prog band/artist does an homage to the Apocalypse in 9/8 section. I even included something like that in one of my songs. xD

Indeed, it's repetitive and boring.
But if you're looking for a more repetitive and boring version of Apocalypse just check MARILLION's "Grendel": it's a copy of Apocalypse 9/8 but played in .... 8/8 ! Maybe technically they (Mick Pointer) weren't able to play in 9/8 ?
The sound of waves crashing against rocks. Birds whistling. Babbling brooks.
The artwork tends to be a turn-off.
70+ minutes long (single track) "concept album" epics.

Nostalgia, you know, ain't what it used to be. Furthermore, they tells me, it never was.

Agree 100% with the weak vocalist thing. I ran out of patience with that some time ago.
I am surprised to hear a lot of people dissing on the original Apocalypse in 9/8 though. A classic of building tension and then release in my book. But yes, I don't need to hear other bands deliberately aping it.
