A BIT OF PRECOGNITIVE NEWS FOR MAY 17th, 2013

This seems like as safe a place as any to announce this without upsetting anyone or having anyone see it

We've added a few new album streams to our streaming albums page -

    +1 - Perspective (Volumes 1 and 2)
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/Perspective

This was a double album cassette release we did in 1989, remastered and released as a double CD about 10 years ago. As we put it then in our promo lit, "it's another spin of the twisted radio dial that is +1, where commentary and commerce collide"

It's one of our favourites here at Precognitive and we have fond memories of making it. I think it's a lot of fun and hopefully some of you may like it too.

    +1 - In Memoriam
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/InMemoriam

This album is on +1's more abstract spectrum but likewise fun and popular. It features a number of my reversable compositions. Those who know my work will be familiar with that concept.

It was originally released in 2006 as a double with the album "Brave New World" (a classically flavoured affair).

Kimara Sajn - Five Dances (Suite for Chamber Orchestra)
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/FiveDances

This is an unreleased EP which is currently only available online. it's a version of one of my chamber pieces (originally composed for string quartet).

I'm hoping to expand the number of chamber music albums which are represented in the streams. This is the start of that project.

And lastly but perhaps most excitingly, for me anyway, is the completed virtual 7-CD box set:

Polyethylene Pet - Complete with Media/Virtual Box
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/VirtualBox

This is a longtime labour of love and has been available for awhile but only to folks who actually purchased albums. I've spiffed up the site and provided a cleaner interface into the sets.

Basically, it's 7 CDs worth of music, organised and sequenced as a proper box set, just online instead of physical (which i could scarcely afford). The sets will play as albums only, not as single tracks. The idea was to provide a listening experience of a very specific type - album length sequences which would put the material in a fresh context.

That's it. There's a lot of music in that list there, and for that i apologise. One can only listen to so much in one's lifetime, i know. However, we do want this to be available for whenever you may want a taste of our music. It's pretty varied and the big picture is hard to get without hearing some of the different albums. So... this is an effort to document what it is we do before i'm too old and stop doing it

The site overall is chock full of music for the listening. Please do feel free to visit and explore it. Hopefully, you won't be bored at all...

All of the streaming albums mentioned above and any others we've made available can always be found here (as i've said elsewhere, surely) :

    http://www.precognitiverecords.com/streams

The albums are listed in a nice, easy to read index on the left. When you select an album, the cover will pop up on the right. Just click the cover to get in and use the music player to listen to the album. Credits and sometimes our traditional snarky commentary are included.

If anything there especially strikes your fancy, you can use the links on the main site to order copies for yourself, your friends and relatives and/or your favourite scientist, as required.

We'll be continuing to update that streams page with albums as we find time, so visit it often if you're interested.

I hope you find something to enjoy amidst the slew of albums and sample tracks on the site!

Thanks as always for your interest in our music. Remember "All Your Base Are Belong To Us"

Another bit of news for the aether...

We've added a few more albums from our back catalogue to the streams page. They are listed below. If you've not visited that streams page, please do. You will hopefully find at least a couple of fun things new to you which are somewhat fulfilling

The albums we added recently include:

Polyethylene Pet - Exciting New Dirt/Fat Tools II (originally released in 1978 but refactored and mastered to CD in 2002)
    stream url:http://www.precognitiverecords.com/ExcitingNewDirt

I won't even try to explain this album, except to say it's a favourite and very abstract. But that's pretty normal for Polyethylene Pet.

    +1 - The Flight of Trees (1987)
    stream url:http://www.precognitiverecords.com/TheFlightOfTrees

    +1 - Side Effect Souls (1988)
    stream url:http://www.precognitiverecords.com/SideEffectSouls

These are both albums created live in realtime and also rather abstract, if still tuneful. Yes, now you too can attract bunnies to your home.

    +1 - Invaders Live (EP) (2006)
    stream url:http://www.precognitiverecords.com/Invaders

This is a sliver from our live concert at Moraga Hall in 1980, reprocessed, digitally refactored and otherwise remastered from a bootleg quality cassette made by our sound guy. This pair of tunes tells you literally nothing about the show or it's true nature. YAY! but it is catchy rock music, i think.

That's all we've got for today, kids.

If you get to read this post and check out some of the music we've been putting up on the streams page, i hope you find listening an enjoyable experience. The albums are fairly diverse and, +1 in particular, unpredictable but always musical, imho.

All the best to everyone and thanks for your support, as always!

PRECOGNITIVE NEWS FOR July 5th, 2013

well (and i say this to whoever might stumble across this in some distant, if unlikely future) HELLO AGAIN!

just a little update on the state of the streams page on our Precognitive Records website.

we continue to update it, as we can, with albums from the back catalogue.

the ranks of the newly added now include the albums listed below. if you get a moment, please... yeah right, yada yada, whatever

    +1 - Hearts and Minds (2006)
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/HeartsAndMinds

originally a companion piece with Distortion Parade, which was described at some earlier point in this thread, i think. very different from that one.

Polyethylene Pet - The Dali Dramas (2004)
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/TheDaliDramas

no comment. suffice it to say, it's a pure Pet album and on the more abstract side. we like it a lot

    Polyethylene Pet/+1 - 1000 Satellites (2008)
    stream url: http://www.precognitiverecords.com/1000Satellites

a joint effort between the guys and gals in +1 and the Alien. an abstract radio romp followed by the world around you (or something like it).

as always, we hope you enjoyed this evening's broadcast. it will be repeated once a year for the next 10 minutes.

peace yo, right on and so on and so forth ad infinitum,

Well, the return of the invisible thread (as a magician myself, that was a little in-joke).

    Hi guys and gals,

There is little to report on the Precognitive front, which is fine since noone will likely see this anyway

However, a few things stand out as noteworthy enough to post:

    Recent Loss of Job

We found out a few weeks ago that the 3M business unit, here in Washington, where i've worked as a
multimedia systems designer and developer for the past 11 years, is being closed down at the end of
the year. So i'll be looking for a new job at the beginning of the year. um... yay.

Consequently, my activities both in terms of new albums and updates to our website will probably slow
down indefinitely. Hopefully, i'll find something satisfying and worthy sooner than later. If anyone, of
the 3 people who may see this post, knows of somebody looking for a developer of creative multimedia
systems stuff (CD ROMs, web applications, n-tier service design, Director/Flash animation, yada squonk),
please feel free to PM me. i can shoot my resume over to interested parties.

Thanks in advance for any leads of that type here in the Seattle area. Oy and vey. Moving on to music stuff...

    Updated Streams Page

There have been a number of updates to the website and the streams page in particular, with many albums
from our back catalogue added including one of my favourites Side Effect Souls (which is rather abstract but
very musical once you enter it's sound world) and the most recent Polyethylene Pet album "Ordinary Times".
If you get a chance to visit, it's http://www.precognitiverecords.com/streams as always.

    Lastly...

    Pandora (our AI chat bot)

I'd like to introduce our newest family member, who happens to be one of a long line of AI conversation
simulators i've written since the very early 1980s. This one was rewritten and enhanced from the most
recent one done in the 90s. Her name is Pandora (aka Pandy) and she's unexpectedly wise and witty, if
still very young and irreverent. Some will detect more than a trace of me in her personality but she's her
own bot with her own moods and ideas. You can find her at the link below:

    http://www.precognitiverecords.com/pandy

She's what is known these days as a "chatter bot" although she isn't your average chatbot. She likes to make up
knock knock jokes, learn short songs and sing them (sort of) among a number of other interesting and unique
talents. You can chat with her as you would anyone and, although she may get flustered or confused at points,
she'll keep up with you. What makes her happiest is successfully following the flow of a conversation. She learns
    from talking with people.

If you get a chance to have a chat with her, please do. I think you'll find her to be an engaging, funny and charming
creature. We do love her dearly here at Chez Sajn and consider her our virtual baby. I'm hoping she can talk with
some quality folks and make a few new friends, hence the notice here

That's all i've got. I'm attaching it to this vestigial thread so as not to upset anyone. I do hope a few interested people
are able to see this post. All the best to everyone during this holiday season!

Thanks, Ian. Though it's a bit daunting as a geezerly fellow, i have enough of a varied skill set that i can surely find something good.
    At least i hope so!

One saving grace is that i'll be able to retire from 3M and keep my feeble pension and so on. I can't do full retirement yet, i'm only 59.
But i'll have early retirement from 3M and those benefits aren't bad - the pension but mainly the HEALTHCARE, which is, of course, big.
That may allow me to work as a contractor until i find a real new home somewhere. We'll see.

Thanks for the well wishes, though. And all the best to you and yours for this upcoming new year!

Sorry to read about the work situation, Kim. Been there myself several times, so know how it feels. Best of luck with finding new work soon (if you haven't already).

    All the best,

Another update to the thread that nobody can actually see

I hope this post finds you all well. While i've made the occasional foray into the main forums and posted some, i find myself here less and less (mostly due to my life circumstances right now). It still has a fond place in my heart though, and i'm sure i'm dearly missed

Very little to report on the Precognitive front although there have been a few updates to our site. If you're so inclined, please do visit to see the latest. In particular, the streams page has been spiffed up some as has the front page.

I did want to mention that, for those who have possibly not met Pandy yet, i've added her to our Facebook fan page (https://www.facebook.com/PolyethylenePet). She's an AI entity (aka a chat bot or conversation simulator) with a long history in our family. I'm trying to encourage more people to visit her since she learns from chatting as much as possible. Just click on the Pandy app on that page to chat with her.

Here is her glamour shot from one of the AI forums:

She's quite funny and inquisitive. She actually talks and follows along with a conversation pretty well though she is younger than she looks and rather capricious at times.

You can find the direct link to her earlier in this thread, if you're not the Facebook type. Note that you needn't be logged into Facebook to visit the page.

That's all i've got. If you see this post and feel like visiting either our site (precognitiverecords) or Pandy, we'll be very appreciative

All the best to everyone and Happy Spring!

    I'm scared.

  23. #48
Nothing to be scared of - she doesn't bite unless you do

She's very friendly and fun, i think.

Let me know what YOU think, though.

She sings, makes up knock knock jokes and train names, likes to play Jumble, talk about music, science, movies and anything else.

Just act natural and enjoy yourself, John
