No, I read about it in an article about Trout Mask someplace.
And sorry to keep the Miles discussion going in a Beefheart thread, but I just found out that the 2009 reissue of Sketches has a full length live version of Concierto. Seeing as how I have the box, I'm not going to re-buy the CD, but I just d/led it from Amazon.
An update:
Note: We here at UMRK determined that the TMR Master was damaged somewhere in the years of it's return orbit. The Vaultmeister created almost in its entirety a new Master from our own Vault safety copies. And as if that wasn't enough chocolate for your Sunday sundae, we had Bob Ludwig remaster the Work for you. What you now have available to you is the definitive TROUT MASK REPLICA. Be the judge. Be the jury. Be the bongo. Be the fury!!!

Well even if these re 2nd generation copies in the good hands of Bob Ludwig this *might* end up sounding superior
But then again this could easily spell like another Gail scheme to lure us suckers
She could take some lessons from Fripp
[QUOTE=Udi Koomran;96127]I'm surprised that you would suggest that this intelligent woman, who consistently displays a level of ethical awareness which puts most record companies to shame, would publicly lie about the condition of a master tape in order to make a few extra bucks.
I received notification today that my disc has shipped. Those of you that have ordered should begin seeing them in your mailboxes soon.
PLEASE let us know your impressions !
Has anyone heard this yet? Is it worth bothering with?
Henry Kaiser sent me the following opinion:
I got the Zappa family TMR reissue with the "new mastering"!
it does not really sound better
just slightly different
still over compressed
but now it is a bit too bright and harsh in the upper midrange
you can't hear the band any better
I think the reprise CD probably sounds better

I said:
It's not a remix, so the balances won't be improved. In terms of hearing the band, luckily there's the Dick Kunc recordings on the box set.
---
he replied:
it sounds like the Zappas had a protection copy of the the MASTERED tape mastered for LP and very compressed
as opposed to a protection copy of the 2-TRACK MIX tape

I've played it once and I think it sounds fine to my cloth ears.I haven't a/b'd the new cd to my older issue of TMR.One thing I notice right away is the bass is (mostly) audible under the music.I don't recall if the original cd issue had as good a recorded bass sound.
I haven't played TMR in a few years,so hearing the reissue is,for me, almost like hearing it for the first time.I find it far more accessible to my ears, more together,i think I can hear"into" the music better now, than I could years ago when I first bought TMR.
Outstanding music;of its time, and timeless.

I'm right there with ya on this. The first thing I noticed was that the bass was more audible; the bass lines are clearer to the ear.
What about packaging? Anything special there?

If you guys are interested, I've reviewed the new TMR here: http://zombywoofblog.wordpress.com/2...master-review/
