Brand X had released some excellent fusion, no doubt about it, though it seems to me they were kind of "British answer" to WR and RTF. I mean their music was noticeably derivative to some degree..
and what was Percy Jones doing in 1969 you ask? He was playing fretless bass in The Liverpool Scene that's what: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=1gmpQC2BNfg
Goodness. That Guily Foyle is mess. Percy Jones is one of a kind bassist, he has unique style and virtuosic technique.
Ok, I just found out that anyone who wants X Communication can get it on Trilogy. At Amazon it's $85 new,$42 and up used which is a lot cheaper than buying the cd by itself. You also get Manifest Destiny and that Live at The Bottom Line,1979 show with the original band and Peter Robinson. Since I already have M.D. and X Communication, I discovered I could just download the live cd alone for less than $9.00. So, I did. I searched You Tube and could not find that.
Always liked that Marscape album. I like this too - a bit of a different feel but falls partly under the Brand X umbrella:
Interviewer of reprobate ne'er-do-well musicians of the long-haired rock n' roll persuasion at: www.velvetthunder.co.uk and former scribe at Classic Rock Society. Only vaguely aware of anything other than music.

^ Agreed,I have it on lp and haven't listened to it for maybe 25 years or so. Nice that you posted this. Thanks. Amazing that record stores actually allowed this cover on their shelves in 1979 nobody said anything about it afaik.
http://www.artist-shop.com/buckyball/ The Artist Shop has Trilogy listed for $25.99, and some other Brand X-related stuff.
I love me some Marscape!
Wilding Bonus is not too bad... some great stuff on there too
Why is it whenever someone mentions an artist that was clearly progressive (yet not the Symph weenie definition of Prog) do certain people feel compelled to snort "thats not Prog" like a whiny 5th grader?
Have a look at this thread for a "new" B rand X album

Not quite classic stuff but quite good. Not convinced by the vocals in a couple of the songs though.
There are still stores in the Bay Area where you can do that. Amoeba is one fantastic place where you can get lost for hours.

Great clip!
But from this interview one can deduct that his fretless career first started around 1971 (or 72).

My favorite fretless player.
I have always thought that Percy was the most interesting musician in the bands he has played in. I have actually troubles understandig some of constallations he has been in (choice - or butter & bread?). For instance Bangtower, he plays wonderful & challenging basslines but... well, maybe some of you likes it...
