Playing the ukulele this well seems to be missing the point - the point being that a ukulele is supposed to sound low-keyed, easy-going, and a bit amateurish. It isn't supposed to be a classical guitar, and in this case it just sounds like one. Oh well, I suppose this is another example of a guy who, like John Popper or Howard Levy, is a virtuoso on an instrument that usually isn't played virtuosically.

Well I have no problem with that statement! What a great image I have in my mind after reading that.

Jake was “discovered” by Jimmy Buffett quite a few years ago. He has toured as opening act for Buffett on several tours and would then sit in with The Coral Reefer band throughout much of the set. I’ve seen Jake several times with Buffett and the guy is amazing. He appears on Buffet's "Live In Anguilla" album from a couple of years ago.

    Or, for the REAL traditionalist......

Izzy Kamakawiwoʻole was, in a way, the Bob Marley of Hawaiian reggae. Like Marley, he was the big breakout star that defined his music for the outside world. And like Marley, he died young, and in some sense as a result of his own "authenticity": Marley broke a toe which became infected, but avoided Western medicine in favor of backwoods Rasta healers until it turned cancerous; Izzy died from complications connected with his traditionally Hawaiian enormous weight.

Here's a bit of uke playin' for ya, courtesy of a very coked-up Steve Marriott...
