I never was for penalizing players for taunting or showing out after a score or a game changing play but Im not a fan of the choreographed celebrations, or at least, if it were me and I'd had a protracted celebration for making a big play, I'd feel pretty sheepish about it if we wound up losing the game. Most of these choreographed group celebrations are quite a stretch and mostly hokey, IMO.

Sorry, Vic, but wouldn't have figured you for get off my lawn there.
You know, I'm ok with celebration when you win the game, but not these excessive, time wasting, skits after a score early in the game. It just gets on my nerves. There's nothing more embarrassing to me, than seeing all the celebration, and then you lose the game. That's just me I guess.

To think Gastineau used to get ripped for his uncoordinated flailing after a sack, and now you have players doing The Worm in the middle of the field for a basic tackle holding an RB to a one yard gain...

Yep. The worm would be welcome though! These are now coreographed skits. It's ridiculous. I'm all for having fun, but this shit is just stupid, selfish nonsense. The NFL as a whole is becoming increasingly less watchable to me...with no help from the Giants

Actually I take that back.... Basic tackling is so shitty and rare now that perhaps it is worth celebrating

Lol. I could be wrong but I think "taunting" became a penalty because of Gastineau (could be wrong). I don't know man, I still prefer good sportsmanship over dancing and hip shaking after every play.

To go back to the Cheetah and his celebrations: We beat a bad team (Washington). What are you celebrating? All it takes is a couple turnovers and we could easily lose. Just play the games. If we win our division and get a bye, dance all you want. We still have 5 games to play (and Buffalo has the tie breaker).

    And further more......

Whenever I'm watching the games at pubs, and everyone around me is whooping and hollering during the celebration, I'm the guy yelling, knock it off, the game is far from over.

I'm waiting for someone having to be carted off the field for getting hurt during the celebration. Waiting for a dislocated shoulder after a flip.

Yes, it’s the celebrating after the most mundane plays that gets me. It’s 2nd down and 7, and the running back get stopped after 3 yards and the linebacker is posing and saying “not in MY house”.

That, and the unimaginative team “let’s all run to the endzone and flex as a team” that has been done to death.

    I can agree with that.

That doesn't bother me that much. The defence doesn't get a lot of attention these days. It's all QBs and wide receivers.

Somehow the game is still fun, but I'm really old so I miss the stout defenses of old, and the big, bruising fullbacks of old, with broken noses and missing teeth.

The showboating started when the first receiver or running back ever to spiked the ball in the end zone in either the late 60s or early 70s.
