Pink Floyd to Commemorate ‘Dark Side of the Moon’ 50th Anniversary With Various Title

    From BestClassicBands.com-

One of classic rock’s most acclaimed albums, Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, is celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2023. And though the official announcement of an expanded audio edition to mark the occasion has yet to be made, the publisher of an official commemorative book has leaked the news of a “luxury box set.” The book, Pink Floyd: The Dark Side Of The Moon: The Official 50th Anniversary Book, arrives in the U.K. on March 1, via publisher Thames & Hudson, on the anniversary of the album’s original release date. The U.S. edition is scheduled for March 7. Its authors are listed as Pink Floyd, photographer Jill Furmanovsky and longtime Floyd art director Aubrey Powell.

From the publisher’s announcement: The album-sized package features rare and unseen backstage and onstage photography and reveals the visual conception of the original iconic album artwork. Designed by Pentagram to high specifications, this official book commemorates the band and the album.

The big news of the new audio edition was made in a somewhat “oh, by the way” sentence in the book announcement: “[The March] date will also see the launch of a luxury box set containing a re-release of the album together with numerous related music items.”

How many versions of this album does one need?
Music isn't about chops, or even about talent - it's about sound and the way that sound communicates to people. Mike Keneally

I only want it if the scarf's been remixed in surround.

What can this strange device be? When I touch it, it brings forth a sound.

Honestly I would rather discover new music than keep buying something that has already been playing in my head for decades.

My son who lives in Montreal, brought me some few very cool Christmas presents he got at the "Their Mortal Remains" exhibition in Montreal that he told me was absolutely awesome. There is a lotta stuff about the Dark Side album and tour, both the poster and T-shirt have that album as the centerpiece so this 50th anniversary is very significant.

I have the Immersion box of this album (that is about the 8th time I've bought a version this album) but also feel there is no need for more versions however this milestone could have special events and newer variations for this occasion. Oh and BTW, I saw the original tour in 1973.
I may be older but, I saw live: Led Zeppelin, Yes, ELP, Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Fish, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Marillion, IQ, UK, Saga, Rush, Supertramp, Pink Floyd, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Triumph, Magma, Goblin, Porcupine Tree, The Musical Box, Uriah Heep, Dio, David Bowie, Iron Maiden, Queen with Freddie Mercury, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood, Steely Dan, Dream theater, Joe Satriani, you get the idea..

The contents are disappointing, but I’m kind of glad I can skip this release. Looks like it has less content than the Immersion box. This would have been the ideal opportunity for them to put out the complete Wembley set, but since they didn’t I guess we can assume it’s not going to happen. I’ll stick to my cobbled together playlist version.

I wish they'd just put out a Wembley 1974 vinyl release containing the DSOTM set, early WYWH/Animals versions and the Echoes encore.

    LOL exactly.

I preordered and decided to buy the Wish You Were Here Immersion box since it is still available.

    But I know.

    I just know.

Pink Floyd will "Commemorate" Wish You Were Here in 2025, and my wallet will be $300+ lighter afterward.

A LOT of coin. The deluxe box is going for $299 (!). When you consider what labels like Madfish and Panegyric put out for prices ranging from less to more (but the more have so much more content!), this is, at least IMHO, a shameful ripoff of Floyd fans. I've got the Immersion box, and I'm perfectly happy with that. Frank, it has more content, and also includes the Wembley performance.

If you have even the two-disc DSOTM and WYWH, along with the Early Years box, you have the entire Wembley show, you just have to put it together. But it's all there.
