Tough question. This wasn't exactly a banner year for me. I only got 14 CDs. One of those was largely a re-release of older material, and many I found somewhat underwhelming, including some in my top five list. Here they are, as it stands now.
Aurora Clara - Clear Dawn
Space Junk is Forever - Duo Junk
In-Dreamview - Spires
Miriodor - Elements
Moon Letters - Thank You From the Future
Bill
I fear its gonna be a meager list.
Honestly I had real trouble keeping to just my top five. There were a ton of great releases this year. Gun to the head though:
Iluiteq - The Light Inside, The Dark Outside
Kavinsky - Reborn
The Midnight - Heroes
Rolo Tomassi - Where Myth Becomes Memory
Franck Vigroux - Magnetophone
If you're actually reading this then chances are you already have my last album but if NOT and you're curious:

Also, Ephemeral Sun: it's a thing and we like making things that might be your thing: https://ephemeralsun.bandcamp.com
I need to research those, John.
I know the Rolo Tomassi and agree with its top-5 status. The rest are new to me!

Duncan

On top of it, a lot of them will be in the jazz realm (which may not tickle your fancy that much).
Right now, I've got a list of 40, of which 15 can +/- be called bubbling under or also ran.
I can give a shot at 10, though, but no garantee and no order. All have a BC page.

for the full list (so far, cos there is still three weeks) look up my post in PA in the 2022 so far thread.

my music collection increased tenfolds when I switched from drug-addicts to complete nutcases.
I'll be honest, it's a pretty wide spectrum and not many may be your cuppa. Maybe the Vigroux (electronic but with a metal mindset if that makes sense).
I will say, if I'd picked 10 then the latest Cult of Luna would be right up there as well. Might be my favorite yet from them.

• Porcupine Tree – Closure / Continuation
• Marillion – An Hour Before Its Dark
• Ghost – Imepra
• Drive By Truckers – Welcome To Club XIII
• Jack White – Fear Of The Dawn
For me it's three studio and two live releases:
Porcupine Tree - C/C
Tears For Fears - The Tipping Point
Marillion - An Hour Before Its Dark
NMB - Morsefest 2021
King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King - King Crimson at 50

I don't really know that I have 5. I like Magma's "Kartehl" but do not consider it among their best, and I like Glass Hammer's "At the Gate." Beyond that, I am coming up blank.
PS. Duncan, I signed up to ride RAGBRAI 50! A couple of my old riding buddies convinced me to, since I will likely be retired by then and can drive to the start point. It will have been 6 years since I last rode it.
I'm not lazy. I just work so fast I'm always done.
Hmm... Well, if limiting to just 5 it might look something like this:
By Royal Decree - TFK
Mahal - Toro y Moi
Space Force - Todd Rundgren
Turf Ascension - Bubblemath
Artefactron - Artefactron
"what's better, peanut butter or g-sharp minor?"
- Sturgeon's Lawyer, 2021
Dana,
The last time you rode it (6 years ago) is probably the 2nd time you and I rode it together?
I'm glad you're doing it again - that's really good news! Who knows, I might do it again some time. I'm planning to get back into ultra-distance cycling again next year, having taken 2 years off to focus on mountaineering activities.
Remember - you're supposed to ride 1,000 miles before the eventso I'll be following your progress!
Okay - back to our regularly scheduled programming![]()

Duncan
Tough to pick only 5. This might mix it up a little:
Mysteries Of The Revolution - Longing For The Dawn
Retreat From Moscow - The World As We Knew It
Jonas Lindberg & The Other Side - Miles From Nowhere
Esthesis - Watching Worlds Collide
Rick Miller - Old Souls
JG
"MARKLAR!"
these did the most for me i miiiight say? hard to limit this:
The Mars Volta - s/t
Gang of Youths - Angel In Real Time
black midi - Hellfire
Bjork - Fossora or Marillion - An Hour Before It's Dark
Tears for Fears - Tipping Point
