RIP Paul Plimley
Just read that Canadian jazz pianist Paul Plimley died last month at age 69. Plimley was one of the founding members of Vancouver's NOW Orchestra, and has worked with Cecil Taylor, Barry Guy, Joe McPhee, Rene Lussier, Marilyn Crispell, Henry Kaiser, and John Oswald, among many others.
Obituary is here.

He was pretty active at the Vancouver Jazz Festival for several years, fantastic musician, lots of humor in his playing. Seemed able to provide a bridge to Cecil Taylor and other outer reaches without losing an audience. At one performance there a deconstruction and rebuild of some very Stevie's Spanking like stuff really stuck out. He'll be missed for sure.

Sad news. I have a disc that he made with Henry Kaiser; good stuff. May he rest in peace.
