Thread: If you could only listen to new albums from one country?

If you could only listen to new albums from one country?

Which country would you chose? If ( for the next three years) I was locked into only purchasing/listening to albums from one country, I would choose Norway. I'm astounded at the shear number of Norwegian albums I've purchased the last five years. That said, five years ago, I would have chosen Italy.

If for the next three years, you could only listen to new albums from one country...Which country would you choose?

Other than my home country of the U.S.A. (mostly non-prog), I would say the country where I have purchased the most in the last decade or so would be Sweden.

Based on my purchases of the last three-and-a-half years, the most albums came from the USA, but Norway is not far behind in quantity, and right up there in quality. France is also right up there, but mostly on the strength of Ghost Rhythms, with one Scherzoo and one Yang album.

Tough call. The more I think about it, the more I lean toward France. I'm glad I don't really have to make that choice, though.

That's incredibly tough to answer. My initial reaction was Italy, but I'd probably end up saying Sweden. I'm glad I don't have to make the choice though!

I've a lot of German stuff, but a lot of it isn't prog, so I'm not sure if I would choose it. If I could say Europe, I would go for that, but that's not a country.

Would have to go with Norway, especially now that we know a new Motorpsycho album is imminent.

    A truly impossible choice.

I guess I would choose the USA. But....I cant really commit to that as I then think of France & Germany. And then the UK and Japan.
Please don't ask questions, just use google.

Been heavily into the modern jazz and post-punk scenes in England at the moment so it's probably be the UK.

I blame Wynton, what was the question?

My first choice would be France. Ghost Rhythms is my favorite currently active band. But there's Poil with all its offshoots, Scherzoo, Ceccaldi brothers, In love with, Magma, Jean Louis , Setna, Alco Frissbas and many more.

Second choice would be Usa but mainly for their modern Classical scene with bands like Eight Blackbird, Ymusic, Latitude49, Roomfull of Teeth, Now Ensemble, Alarm will sound and composers like Tyshawn Sorey, Gabriella Smith, David Lang, Missy Mazzoli, Caroline Shaw and so many more.

If RIO was my favorite sub-genre... then France would be my runaway choice. I adore Jean Louis. I'm a big PoiL/PinoiL fan. Alco Frissbas has a hat-trick....hasn't made an average album yet.

Not sure about new music, but since I would choose the UK in a heartbeat if we're talking about one country for any years, I'll stick with the UK, especially England since there might be a new Cardiacs album!
