Sometimes when I’m having a hard time choosing what to listen to next, and I feel a little bored with everything I’ve been listening to recently, I’ll pick an old favorite “ear-candy” album. By this I mean a good album filled with interesting, little audio bits. These bits could be anything that appeals to me. They could be instrumental, vocal, sound effects, solos (as long as there are a lot of them) - whatever is most instantly and mindlessly appealing. Often they’re what Geddy Lee referred to in an interview as “events." Cool things that happen in the songs. Rush is a band I often turn to in these instances. This could kind of overlap with “comfort prog,” but so what? Also, doesn't really need to be your favorite, just a favorite. I'm hoping to get some good suggestions from this.
I’ll go first, with an album I just pulled out that I haven’t listened to in a LONG time, but it always hit the spot:
The Bears - s/t
Ear-Candy Attributes: great harmony vocals, tons of cool guitar sounds)
(I guess this should have been in off-topic - sorry!)
