Thread: Rage Against The Machine Vs. Audioslave

  1. #26
rage all the way. they aren't the first or last good band to write anti establishment lyrics. poor young artists tend to be that way. so somebody signs them based on what they see and hear, wahat are they supposed to do, go back and correcting the lyrics to reflect the fact that a record company felt they can make money from them? the record company bought the goods leftism and all, correct? that's prety obviously what they want. does anybody refuse to support that record company for profiting on anti capitalism lyrics? by far the bigger whores are the record company, thriving in a capitalist society by marketing socialism to kids. lolk they could easily have done what they used to in communist Russia which is only pick bands that honor the flag, the party, and the political economic system that the gov't and army support.

Morello is one of my favorite guitarists ever - his ability to fit the instrument into that style of music was genius if you ask me.

Loved the band and saw them many times back in their heyday . . .

The complaints of a protest band being signed to a major label and making money is just plain stupid. How can one rail against the system if their voice can't be heard? Use the system against itself. Infiltrate it. I don't agree with all the ideas of the band, but most of them were just calling out for justice, equality, compassion and destroying the complacent comfort (in the 90s) of our temporary economic bubble. To call them left wing is a bit misleading.Remember these guys were calling our Gov't out during the Clinton Years, and Morello has said many times he is not that happy with Obama. No, they are not right wing, but leftist appeasers they have never been.

But back on subject: RATM wins against Audioslave for me because Rage just has the fire. As much as I love Chris Cornell, his time in the band was a time he was really struggling with his voice, and his melodies really sounded bored. The music seemed to be so tamed down as well. I am glad Soundgarden is back. RATM seems to be a semi-retired band now, and maybe that is for the best as their albums seemed to get weaker as they went on.

I don't care for either..., but Audioslave's last CD, Revelations, is pretty good melodic hard rock, in an old school way.
no tunes, no dynamics, no nosebone

That's how I feel about their first album.

RATM's formula was simple: Take any Minor Pentatonic Zeppelin-esque heavy blues-metal riff (for example "Heartbreaker" by Led Zeppelin, "Son and Daughter" by Queen, etc) ...Now, take out the Plant-style vocals and replace with a political rapper that sounded like he had marbles in his mouth and always angry about "Fistagons" and that is the basic RATM formula

As someone said above: The first album was great - but I understood the formula so I lost interest in most of their subsequent material

I also thought Tom Morello was quite the hypocrite for chastising Paul Ryan after Ryan claimed he was a fan, citing that Ryan represented the "big money making machine" (gvt and corp entities) that their music was raging about.....all the while saying this while drinking the fine wine that he bought mostly due to the money he made while RATM was raking in big corporate dollars (they were signed to Epic Records , and labels dont get any more corporate than Sony/Epic)

Audioslave follows the formula sometimes, but deviates which is cool....they are good but sound way too "holding onto the 90s" for me to get into

Do you mean which band would we choose if one of them had to die? That's tough...

Rage > Audioslave from what I've heard. Which probably isn't enough to make an informed decision.

Holy shit man! I never saw this thread until just now so I assumed it was recent. I start reading the posts from the beginning and came across one from Yanks. Kinda freaked me out for half a second!

For the topic at hand, I much prefer Rage to Audioslave. I don't see them as being hypocritical at all. They believed the message they delivered. Watch any live performance by them and you'll see a kick ass band!

While I like both bands I do prefer Lounge Against the Machine to both. Seriously, like both bands but hate their politics. Would prefer both to be instrumental acts. 2 of a handful of bands that I will not purchase their stuff as I am so opposed to their views and support on certain topics.
