That's one way of looking at it, I guess. I don't think they "created a mess" with Baker, unless you mean by drafting him. They tried to upgrade the position. Yes, it was a longshot, but they never extended Baker, so the idea of looking elsewhere had to be a possibility to Baker and his reps. I'd also point out that this kind of thing goes on regularly with teams that don't have a franchise quarterback. There were 3 other teams who met with Watson in the hopes of acquiring him. I haven't heard their quarterbacks under contract throwing a fit and demanding to be traded. Baker is a spoiled child and is emotionally brittle. He certainly hasn't earned the right of absolute team loyalty from his play on the field. Add in rumors of a divided locker room and...

No, he's not. He was aware Adams wouldn't be there when he re-upped.

Guaranteed? They'd better have extra insurance on that contract.

That is a heck of a contract. But Watson is a heck of a QB and could very well earn every penny in 5 years. However, as pointed out by our local talk radio (95.7 The Game @Wease, who as a Giants/Niners fan probably listens to KNBR, the competition) the NFL is the pro sports leader in ignoring unbecoming and illegal conduct by it's stars.

He will have to earn his money against the Ravens who now have the best secondary in football.

Hey Moe! Hoping the best for the Browns, for your sake and all long suffering Browns fans. But I don't trust this Watson. And seeing all these owners falling all over themselves to get him makes me cringe a little. Like making a deal with the devil.....

Nah, seriously hoping for the best for your team.

Thanks Vic. There's definitely an unpleasant smell associated with this trade. I saw a meme that was a GIF of a guy in front of a laptop, and the text said "Me furiously deleting all my Ben Roethlisberger tweets" . On the field, this is a major upgrade. I think the Browns front office looked at it like, "We've put together a roster that can win a Super Bowl. Our window is now. We've evaluated Baker Mayfield, and he's not the guy who can get that done. Factor in his immaturity, and we have to go hard after DeShaun Watson." I'd love to know if the Browns wouldn't take no for an answer, or if DeShaun wasn't terribly enamored with Carolina, New Orleans and Atlanta after giving them a good look, and his reps came up with the contract terms and came back to Browns ownership.

Hopefully, Watson has learned a lesson and will modify his behavior going forward. I don't think that what the Browns gave up was too much for an elite quarterback who is 26 years old. The contract, on the other hand, is mindblowing. It was needed to bring this about. Money talks. Without it, he doesn't come to a "cold weather" city. It is what it is.

I'm going to post a video from Quincy Carrier, who I think is the best Cleveland Browns analyst on YouTube. If you have 15 free minutes, I highly recommend you watch it. It doesn't so much dwell on what the trade means for the Browns specifically, or even DeShaun Watson specifically. He points out that it's a "Game Changer" for the whole League, and then explains why. Very interesting, sharp analysis.

I'll believe it when I see it. I could see Watson being a malcontent and a cancer if it doesn't go his way. ....

The Browns should have been in the super bowl last year but the officials blew a call at the goal line against the Chiefs.

I am very unhappy with this Baker Mayfield situation as this puts the future of his commercials in jeopardy. They are some of my favorite.
Brian Dennehy: "I'm now 80 and I'm just another actor and that's fine with me. I've had a hell of a ride," ... "I have a nice house. I haven't got a palace, a mansion, but a pretty nice, comfortable home. I've raised a bunch of kids and sent them all to school, and they're all doing well. All the people that are close to me are reasonably healthy and happy. Listen, that's as much as anybody can hope for in life."

I concur. Out here there are two factions, the unrealistic side which thinks we could get a 1st or 2nd for Jimmy G. and then the realists that feel a 3rd + later round pick would be about right. It's comical how the fanbase and pundits are divided.
