RIP to a mad talent.
Saw PH maybe 4-5 years ago and while GB looked frail up on stage, when he opened his mouth, it was HIM. I remember being incredibly impressed with how strong he still was.

Never listened to much Procol Harum at all, although obviously I knew "Whiter Shade of Pale". Sad to hear about this.
"what's better, peanut butter or g-sharp minor?"
- Sturgeon's Lawyer, 2021
The thought that I'll never hear Gary sing live again makes me very, very sad.
Ohh. Tonight's setlist will be all Procol Harum. Nothing but love for this band. Saw them in the 70's with KC and Dr. John.
R.I.P. Mr. Brooker.
My first concert was Procol at Hull City Hall in '77 on the Something Magic Tour. RIP
I always loved his singing, and those early albums left an impression on me. I haven’t heard much of any recent work, but have a deep respect for him. RIP.
I’ve always liked this introduction to “Luskus Delph” from a 1971 concert:
Wow…I’m gonna have to take a few piano lessons here, I’m getting stiff fingers. I think it‘s my watch strap. Ooh! This next song…if you could put the voice a little bit down in the cans, please…Phil? [German accent] Phil on ze, on ze controls? Thank you. This next one is from our new album. Some words by Keith Reid. This time a little sultry, and a little underhanded…smut, I think. No, excuse me, I’ll turn that backwards: “smut” will be “tums.”

I was such a huge fan of both him and that band. So sorry to hear this. Time to put on some Procol.
And the code is a play, a play is a song, a song is a film, a film is a dance...
Sad days are back again, all too often it seems. Rest in peace gentle soul and thank you for the music. Your music will live forever.
"Confusion Will Be My Epitaph"
Live with the Edmonton Symphony was one of my gateway to prog LPs when I was 12 in '72. Love PH and GB
Wow... My cousin introduced my older brother and me to Procol Harum with Shine On Brightly at its release in 1968. I loved In Held Twas In I. After 50+ years, I still listen to it often. Unfortunately, I never saw them live. Mr. Brooker will be missed.

What a voice! RIP Mr Brooker.

Odd that McDonald and Brooker should pass so close together- “Let There Be Light” was the highlight of Ian’s solo album largely due to Gary’s wonderful vocal...

Yep, RIP. I started a thread on this topic yesterday which was moved to OT. No need for two threads on the same topic imo. https://www.progressiveears.org/foru...(Procol-Harum)

A major figure, a major loss. TBH I hadn't realised he was so young when in The Paramounts (they charted with 'Poison Ivy' way back in 1963).
In the UK, though not 'one hit wonders', Procol Harum seem to be largely known for their first hit single. Their pioneering album work is somewhat overlooked I find. I'm glad the US market was consistently receptive to those albums.
"A Whiter Shade of Pale" was my gateway drug into progressive music.

Looking forward to my day in court.
Would have loved to have seen him do more work with Alan Parsons. A special man, a special voice. RIP sir.
The older I get, the better I was.

Do you think people are posting RIP threads on the main board because they are not aware of the guidelines for posting RIP threads, or do you think people just don't agree with the guidelines and choose to ignore them?
Serious question. I don't know, but I have some thoughts.

I initially posted mine on the main board well aware of the guidelines but figured I would post it on the main board anyway(while offering the option of it being moved to OT which happened) since he was an architect of prog. Hopefully mods will see this and either close it or merge the two threads.
